The face value of these coins in the US is zero. Diddly-squat. Find me any bank in the US that exchanges foreign coins and I'll eat my hat. The seller could mail them to http://www.webuyeuros.com/rates and get roughly $59, and spend more than $20 on postage and packing supplies, and go through all that hassle for maybe an extra $9. The seller got exactly what she wanted out of this deal. Since when is accusing a new member of ripping off an old lady not a personal attack on this forum? Bloomberg, good job and hope you find something that makes it worth it.

bloomberg...Thanks for sharing your purchase with us. As you can see the members are divided on there feelings about this. I'm also sure your intentions were not to take advantage of anyone. Hopefully you have learned from this thread what could be considered a touchy issue by the members. More importantly I do hope you will continue to collect Canadian coins and will continue to post on this forum.

This is the second time in the last week that I have seen our members criticize a new members post. The other was a new member with just 2 post who came on to show his new coin. Immediately everyone called his coin "strongly dipped" when I am sure this new member was very proud of this coin. I personally could not see any evidence of "strongly dipped" and was appalled that this new member was treated this way. I doubt very much the new member will ever come on this forum or show us another coin and I just hope he will continue to collect coins. I hope we can learn from this and ensure to treat new members with a little more care. It's very important that we don't dis-courage young collectors.

i agree as well. there is a reason I used to frequent another coin forum, and switched over to this one. that one has apparently been cleaned up now, but I stay here because thats where I'm used to being now. I have been noticing this forum starting to take the same tone at times as the other place used to. I'm far from being fed up with it, but I hope it doesn't become a possiblity in the future.

Agreed,

I do however don't hold with the idea of "Butt Kissing" every new member, Each should be judged at face value.
If someone doesn't appreciate a truthful and honest reply then they have found the wrong site in the first place.

I enjoy this site because it DOES have a core of honest and decent collectors that offer advice and wisdom without hesitation or favour and it is also a morally "righteous " site.
I have a couple of grandkids that are new collectors and I have absolutely no fear letting them read posts on this site because of that.
In hindsight Maybe I shouldn't have posted what I did But my conscience demanded that I made that "Observation".
A "Diplomat" I am NOT.
I always have the tendency to call a spade a spade

Personally I think some members here are far to quick to jump on someones story in a cheap attempt to make themselves look great while trying to make the
other individual look like crap. Absolutely Pathetic!! Disgusting!
I once posted about how I purchased around $3000 worth of silver coins for in the neighbourhood of $1400 and was pounced upon by forum members and accused of ripping someone off when in fact I bought the darn coins off my brother who at the time was just helping me out through a rough go of it.
Not so long along ago it happened again while I was telling a little story about getting $4 or $5 bucks off a mexican taxi driver for $1 US dollar.
Come on people grow up! If you dont have something nice to say then keep it to yourself.
This is not the first time I have seen a new member scared away however I do hope it is the last.
This is a successful forum where we have fun and even make the odd new friend. Lets not destroy something good with cruddy accousations. My Two Cents!

Conversely if someone has something to say that they know will attract criticism, Then they should also keep that to themselves.

Fellows, extremely well said.. Bravo!!
Hopefully everyone will read it and act accordingly.

Something else I would like to say while we are at IT here:
some posters just "fly over" a post, Do not give it any serious thought and then jump to conclusions immediately and post their own perspective of the issue.
By doing so they not only ignore and offend the OP, but they also do not give the OP a chance to have his own issue discussed.

Trout, there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism about a subject of which a poster knows a lot more than others, provided it is done in a nice and respectful way. It creates good Communication.

It's said as you get older one usually get's wiser, not always so. Perhaps this is a good lesson to stand back and take a deep breath and perhaps if a situation rises again similar. Possibly ask yourself what's the basis behind this and would it be better to ask a few questions first to get proper data vs pointed immediate misconduct. Everyone deserves to witness for self prior to attack in all fairness. As seen above I see no wrong doing in the transaction, pure geographical economics were at play! Perhaps I would have paid more but if that's the going rate of our dollars down there then so be it, win win all round.

This is a fantastic forum with fantastic members and truly it's like schooling and the info shared here is invaluable, let's keep a good positive grounds for growth.

Cheers
Jon
