I picked up a Hadrian coin at a coin show I worked at the beginning of the month.

He told me he bought it off a guy in a truck stop 40 years ago. Since I have a few Roman/Sassanian coin he was directed to me.

We all know him down here and he is a trustworthy guy. His story would not be made up but the guy he bought it from may have had a forgeree. I am look for pics of it online but am coming up empty.

Copper and 32mm so a AE 32? It has Hadrian on one side, almost no detail. The bust does come off the coin quite aways. No legend. The back of it has a man kneeling and kissing an emperor's(?) hand.

What made it stand out to me was the back side. It it looked off. Around the two man where really deep groves. There was a "ring: around the outside of the coin. It looks like it was schizled out almost.

Has anyone ever seen of a Hadrian AE 32 from Alexandria before?

We are obviously going to need pictures to comment on authenticity and to get a possible ID.

It seems likely it may be similar to one of these types:

The "ring" around the edge sounds like it was either set in a piece of jewelry or that the "ring" is actually the remnant of the manufacturing of a cast fake coin.

It looks similar to those coins. It just has no writing. It has pitting on one side and I really suspect it was a forgery. I got it cheap just so I could have an example of a fake on hand. I half hoped it was real though.

Thank you Biancasdad
