With the flat details and the cartoonish date, it's like we're trying to mimic the prior Chinese ASE fakes

I visited both of my LCS's today. One had zero silver and the other only had older ASEs. I may have to go the route of APMEX or JMB. Heck, Littleton offered me one in a mail flyer yesterday "at our cost".

The new reverse is very plain IMO, I don't care for the clipped wing at all. The Canada 2014 bird of prey falcon has similar part of wing missing. Current ASE premiums are crazy so I'll pass except I'll likely try to get one proof ASE. At least the large amount of empty reverse field should shine nicely. Unless there are more security features coming other than the missing reed edge I'm disappointed compared to the new security features of the Britannia silver/gold.

Am I in the minority that does not like the new reverse? I don't particularly like the pose of the eagle even though the eagle is highly detailed. I guess we are stuck with this design for another 30 years? After saying all that, I think the mint should release a high relief version of the coin, rather than the reverse proof.

Its kinda split in half. There is some that like the change and some that do not. For what the Eagle stood for on the back of the Type 1 it has so many symbols that our country is founded upon. The 13 stars which symbolized the original 13 colonies are gone. They got rid of olive branch and the bundle of arrows for an oak branch. Either way the Type 2 has to replace one of the most successful bullion coins ever produced. Only time will tell and hopefully some new finishes will help out. Would like to see a high relief version, antiqued (dont know why but I guess its a possibility), Colorized (US mint has done a version before but it has not done the best. You can still buy a graded PF69 for $15 more than release price or OGP for $5 more than release price. By the way there is a Colorized Basketball on ebay for $85...)

I am on the fence about the new reverse as well, so no worries! Quote: @Nells, that's been on the radar for quite some time. I tend to fly below the radar...

@coincollector123 That is a very good summary. I really like the symbolism on the previous design. Arrows in one talon and olive branch in the other.

Nice graphic, nss-22. It is intersting that they put the "AAW" initials in a location and style that looks very much like it could be a "W" mint mark.

Very nice! I like that we can differentiate the types from either side.

Here is an explanation from the US Mint news site of changes for the proof version. I assume it's the same for UNC. This also has been posted on another ASE Type II topic.

Throwing my 2c in now. I just bought one at work today from one of our tubes. We bought about half a dozen rolls of them, and almost ALL of them had issues. All of the coins had issues on the dies themselves. Either what almost looked like rust, pinholes in the field, and rough spots and debris on the dies. Out of 4 tubes I graded a single coin MS-70. That's way, way, way below average.
