My hubby asked me what he is missing on this

1992-D,1993-D,1994-D, DENVER MINT SET'S HIGH GRADE ESTATE COINS 0.99 CENT !
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1992-D-1993...ht_500wt_922

It sold for $113.00

I don't see it, am I missing something that 4 other bidders did see?

It's a little token that says "Denver mint" on it.

These are souvenir sets sold at the gift shop of the Denver mint with a medallion of the Denver mint as the "sixth coin".

They are collectible for what they are. The Denver mint produced these from 1972 to 1998 and the Philadelphia mint made a similar set with a different medallion from 1973 to 1998.

I don't know what the San Francisco mint did but I think they made proof souvenir sets in a similar packaging. Not sure about that.
I did get SBA dollars in souvenir packaging someplace along my collecting path but I think I since sold them. I had the 1982 and 1983 from both Phila and Denver and they brought really nice money when I sold them.

Perhaps the prices realized were from spirited bidding between bidders that want to complete a run of these sets for their own collection?

Some of my favorite purchases are things I've bought after a few. That said, yes, SWI (shopping while intoxicated) can be dangerous indeed! I'll probably end up with 3-4 extra 25th anniversary ASE sets as a result. :)

Thanks everyone, I totally missed that they were souvenier sets. I actually have some of the souvenier coins gotten rather inexpensively from coin shows. I picked them up because I am a softie for those types of medals if they are in the reject bin! Maybe if we imbibe some, it will make more sense to us.
