Acquired a nicely toned PCGS MS-63 1897-S for my Morgan dollar date set today at a coin show in Concord, CA. I've been looking for one for some time and I finally found one that I really like.

VAM 7? I'll have to look that up and see if it's a match and will post what I find. I'm not into the VAMs so that's not something I look for when I am shopping for Morgan dollars.

I found a web site devoted to VAM's and yes, aladinslamp had it right, it is a VAM-7 with the date to the left, the one is doubled at the top on the surface and has a tilted 7. It does not have the tilted S mintmark which would have made it a VAM-12 as these two VAM's share the same obverse.

Now it's been identified as a known VAM, does that add any significant value? Or, is it such a common VAM that it doesn't command a premuim at all?

I am not a VAM collector nor have any real interest in that type of minutiae.
