Roman Provincial Tetradrachm - Need Help With Bust ID Please!

The reverse looks like Zeus to me though, but if I had to guess I would say Lucius Verus or even a young Commodus? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Report this Post to the Staff

sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 01/16/2019 11:53 pm I don't think it is a tetradrachm, because they were struck in billon even at Egypt Alexandria, at the time of Commodus. I am reasonably sure that I can see the remains of a Greek legend, not Latin, both sides. Along with the reverse image, I do, think however, that it is a Roman bronze colonial coin. Probably doesn't mean much in this case for identification, but what is the weight? Report this Post to the Staff

I note the weight of the coin pictured in the link 5.12 grams. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vcoins has an example, but as a billon tetradrachm, Egypt, Alexandria, Commodus, billon tetradrachm, 12.36 grams, 26mm. dia. (nicer condition), $U.S.85.00 I typed: 'Zeus Ammon' into the search. Therefore weight and diameter may fully identify it, IF it is a tetradrachm.
