I am breaking down a garage sale collection I picked up recently. I came across these. I have never heard of a 1943 or 1949 "little 4".

I have looked at them through the 2x2 and I can't really see any size difference between them and the standard 43s and 49s.

Am I just dealing with an old dude that thought he found a new type, or is there something to it?

You are dealing with an old dude who did not realize that the date can change appearance from year to year. The 3 and 9 for the 1943s and 1949s are so large as to make the 4 look abnormally small, it is perfectly normal.

The only difference to look for is on the 1949-S Cents. There is a doubled die on the 4. It is a pointed 4.

Thanks guys, that was my gut reaction. I have come across many "high D varieties" also LOL.
