"For me, looking at the ASE proof and burnished mintages I would say it would make sense there is more than a 100,000 collectors." I read somewhere that the American Silver Eagle is the most collected coin, worldwide, with 4 million collectors.

Quote:What do you think the 25th ASE set will end up being worth Peak at over $1,000 for a sealed set. Long term $600 to $700 for a single sealed set. JMHO.

I didn't buy my sets to resale so not really worried about their value. I ordered 20 of the 20ty anniversary sets and never sold one set, I gave a bunch of them away for Christmas presents and am sure one of two of those were probably sold but heck I paid 100 bucks and by Christmas they were worth 4 times that so I came out smelling like a rose with people getting a present worth 4-500 dollars and I only paid 100 each. This 25th anniversary set I ordered 2 sets and then relocated some funds and ordered 3 more sets and if I get all 5 sets I will do the same this year. I may also do like I did with the Lincoln Chronicles set and pick out a member that I think deserves a set and didn't get to order one to send them a set.
Edit: I just checked online and the first order says it is expected to ship on 11/12/11 and the second order says expected to ship 11/13/11, anyone else that placed multiple orders have this same thing on theirs?

Quote: someone posted that they got 20 sets by using relatives credit cards Unfortunate for the true collector, but that's the way it is when there is profit to be made, and with modern communications, everyone now knows about these opportunities. It's kinda sad, but those people have been around forever. Maybe the mint will see the same address or IP or something, and cut them off. Next will be all the folks that send theirs in for grading, and we'll see a whole world of what someone earlier called the 'pedigrees'.

for the 20th anniversary there was a limit of 10 sets per household and I used my aunts address next door for the other 10 sets but as I said it was not for resale of any sets, I did it for Christmas presents. If I remember correctly there were people saying the 20th anniversary sets was going to be a flop and they were available for a few days to where they were even talking about lifting the 10 set limit before they sold out. when they first went on sale I thought there would be 2 set only coins (the Reverse Proof and the W mm ASE) and then when they decided to sell the W mm separate I know allot of people cancelled quite a few of their orders and I even thought about editing mine to receive less sets. It was a surprise when they did finally sell out and the price shot up because some procrastinators felt they would probably sell the Reverse Proof by itself also before the year was up and when they didn't all the people working on ASE sets needed this one coin to complete their sets. I think that is why these sets sold so fast this time, because they are looking at history and everyone thinks history will repeat itself and these will hold their value

Currently some one is "pre" selling one on E-Bay. The bidding is up to $600.00 and the reserve is not yet met. To me this seems too much like ticket scalping, especially when thee weren't that many sets minted and soem scammers got way more than they should have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Americ...em3a6c05e443

Once the sets get to the Cable coin channels and HSN, I think raw sets will be in excess of $600, MS/PF 69 sets for $1199, and MS/PF 70s for $2000. Any early release labels would be a joke since all have already been minted, boxed, and completely sold out.
Too bad the mint doesn't reward customer loyalty. It would have been nice if everyone who's had a subscription or who has ordered ASEs from them would have had the opportunity to order a single set before they went on sale to the public.
Once again, the mint again underestimated demand.

A single set auction on ebay went for $1530 tonight. Simply unreal.

Interesting topic along with some opinions of the same. I see these sets as an investment, once the album is filled with a set, I see the others being the larger part of the investment, with all said and the history of the 20th anniversary set known, and using this information as a guide, I see this set like most others for now being through the roof and like History shows, they will come back down to an Earthly figure for those who DID NOT receive the set to be able to afford IMO, the 4-500.00 dollar price it will have. It's disturbing how some ebay sellers show what appears to be a selective few who DID NOT have their auctions removed , while plenty of sellers did, go figure.........

I'm selling 3 of my sets on ebay now, because I think it's going to peak and then come back down to a reasonable $600-700 per set for the long term. I'm keeping my personal set +1 just in case it does continue to skyrocket in the long term. Realistically, there is only 1 rarer coin than these 2; it sells for $3000. I don't think that these will get to that, but you never know.

I am not clear on something. I read that ebay has removed some auctions. Is that true? I see a bunch of them on sale there. I was able to get my 5 sets and was going to list 3 tonight or tomorrow on ebay. I hate to sell any at all but when I bought the 5 I knew I wouldn't be keeping them all. Too many bills to pay plus I want to upgrade some Walkers.

Yes, ebay is pulling them as fast as they find them. Some people are listing sets with REALLY short auction times hoping to sell before they get caught. Is up to you but I wouldn't want an ebay black mark on my account. I am going to wait til I have them in hand

IF I receive my five sets, the profits WILL be invested in a high grade 09 S VDB for my collection. Bet on it. One set sold for $1530 on ebay late this evening. Unreal...simply unreal!

Does anyone know exactly what happens if ebay pulls one of your auctions?
