Date has to be either 1866 or early 1867 because that is the only time the rays between the stars were used. The nickels were struck from 1866 through 1883, replacing the Half Dime Report this Post to the Staff

I often leave coins like this among tip money in a restaurant or give it to junior coin club members. I've even spent similar coins; this, in hopes that some finder will be sufficiently intrigued to seek out a collector and possibly join our community. Report this Post to the Staff
