ercle The cheapest is not the best way to store coins. Get some good 2 by 2's for the coins and get some good mylar envelopes for your notes, If you want to do it cheap , Just chuck em all in a box ( God forbid) . Seriously tho if you want to keep your coins in good condition use the best storage you can afford, This will look after you coins and banknotes

Make sure you don't use anything that has PVC. It will ruin your coins/notes
apcgs - notes should be stored vertically? what is the reasoning behind that?

Hi erkle,
I refer you to a post about "mould growing on 50c" for some cleaning and storage tips.
Hard to get most things where I am so I have to stock up when I go to markets of bigger towns (some news agents carry some supplies), sorry not much help.

Always store virtically because if you have serious banknote collection, they do get heavy and can start breaking the fibres in a paper note.

They can become "limp" instead of firm

Ok thanks apcgs. That does make sense. Too much weight can damage the note

right now they are in a safe box, noodled coins are in a tin, pennies are sitting in the coin tray, so I should get 2 by 2's, what about acid free paper or something to help with the notes?

GET THEM OUT OF THE TIN! 2x2 are cheap and easy.

Any coins that are touching each other without something seperating them are asking for trouble.

ah ha, now I get you, none of the pennies are real flash so I didnt think it would matter, I have a few picture frames might make up some holders and hang em up, my best coin is in a plastic folder and the other couple of good ones are in 2x2 cards I think it must be

For the coins, you could get some 2x2's as mentioned or some mylar saflips. 2x2's are pretty cheap - you can either go for the ones that use staples or the self-adhesive ones. Personally, I use the staple ones because the self adhesives have a tendency to pop open after several years and they dont hold the coins tight (I prefer my coins to be a tight fit in the 2x2). Also a reputable dealer told me that the adhesive sometimes dissolves and spills onto the coins. You can buy 2x2's in bulk off ebay. Just a quick question for apcgs, do you recommend storing UNC notes in an album? I got this $100 Australian paper banknote in UNC and I'm unsure whether to put it into my album.

You can buy sleeves from dealers that have a black cardboard backing behind them for extra strength. This stops the notes from bending when/if you turn the pages.
