I've had this nickel for a few months now and I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on it. Specifically, I'm curious as to what kind of error this is and I would also like to know what something like this is worth. The inner ring is slightly indented. Any info is much appreciated : )

Sorry, not an error. Looks like somebody got bored and decided to grind the back off this coin. Sometimes they use a grinder, or even a lathe to do it. If you weigh it, it will probably weigh considerably less then a regular nickel.

I agree with Dave. Idle hands with a garage full of gadgets to amuse oneself with.

Not an opinion - a fact: There is no such thing as a one-sided coin. BOTH sides have to be struck at the same time to impart both designs on both sides.

But you can, of course, have a coin with a featureless face as a result of being struck against another planchet or if it's struck by a die completely obscured by "grease".

Of course, the coin that tops this thread has its reverse face machined off.
