This is my second 1925 cent. It came as part of an estate purchase I made last week. My first one was found while metal detecting and I managed to nick it with my digger. I'm happy to find another example. Even though the pics are inferior, any guess to grade?

You found a 1925 metal detecting, nice find, ikandiggit. This one, with maybe a bit better pics looks like VF-20 to me.

Here's the one I found metal detecting. It still makes me ill when I see that ding:

Wow, that one even looks better than the other one, even with the ding.

Still a great find! Nice state of preservation for a buried coin.

The one in the first post looks, IMO, XF40-45.

I would rate the one that you found at the estate auction a VF but it has been cleaned with some kind of polish but a long time ago.

Seems like it's harshly cleaned with vineger and earser.

In hand it doesn't look so bad. I'll try to get pics a little closer to what I see.

It sucks when that happens. I've done my share of sobbing uncontrollably in the middle of the park after seeing what damage I inflicted on a rare coin.

The second one seems to me, would of been choice AU-55,does it have any luster?that would make or break the grade.that ding can be overlooked to a degree, thanks to the rarity,{1000.000and a bit),and its overall condition. theres still a little mud on that one, but properly cleaned, it should have lots of flash!nice finds.

With eye appeal playing a big part in the desirablility of a coin, the ding on this one detracts too much to keep it in the higher grade value.

Top coin is VF-20 and has been cleaned at one time. The lower coin, before you dinged it, would have been EF-45.
