Okay so I said I would share some of my notes... So I brought out my little box of "story notes" Few if any of these notes have any value... but almost all of them have a story.... So find your most comfy chair... sit back with a nice cup of cocoa and get ready for a few stories kiddies!! So this is THE note folks! When I was 11-14 I delivered newspapers for The Toronto Star. Back then it was up to the courier to collect the funds for the newspapers 1-2 weeks after delivery... Well upon collection one of my customers had given me a bunch of $1 bills that were crisp.... (I was told by this customer that soon these bills would be worth something as they were going to change to a $1 coin soon) In that stack of crisp $1 notes was this one.. and I thought it was cool that the serial number was neat because it was the same backwards and forwards... I think I thought that was so cool that I ended up showing it to many of my friends and family... One day I was in a large mall in downtown Toronto where I noticed there was a coin shop. The $1 coins had just been issued so I ended up taking the train and bus by myself back to this coin store and I took those crisp $1 included this one note thinking they would already be worth something above face and I could cash in! The dealer smiled and as I was telling him about this one note he told me... it probably will never be worth much... but I should keep it... (I'm so glad he did) He then proceded to show me a "sheet" of $1 notes... and I was absolutely mind blown! BAM hook line and sinker I totally wanted one... I think his asking price at the time was around $80 ... I certainly didn't have that kind of money but I ended up saving up all of my money from the newspaper route to go back to that store... I dragged my mom downtown to buy that sheet.. and so I began collecting.. most of those multicolours that you see in that major picture are from that paper route... and while they are barely worth more than face even after all these years I don't think I would trade any of them in.. as those were the grass roots to what has become one of my favourite hobbies.

Great story, nice lot of banknotes. Considering what I've spent in the last year since I started collecting - I sure wish I had the foresight back in the 60's when I was 11 to start a collection. I did receive a nice VF Devil's Face today

That must have been one heck of a gigantic paper route there..seeing the 100's and 50's in that colourful display..
Easy to hear the passion that you still display in your collecting..
Thanks for sharing your story with us..

Ohh umm.. the 100's weren't from the paper route... sorry... pretty much just the ones, twos, fives and tens were....
The multicoloured 100's I picked up in the last few years going to banks and asking for old notes...

Beautiful story, Ag!
I began "collecting" as a hoarder with insane good luck. Wasn't even fond of currency or collecting back then, but if I like it, I take it. This is a bit of a problem, if I see something I want and I get it (which I usually do), I was never be able to let go of it. Hopefully I'll get over this hoarder mentality soon...

If I'm not mistaken.. I think that's one of the reasons why they changed the colour scheme after '37... there was some errors between the $5 and $50... as they were so close in colours.

Interesting story about starting to collect. Mine was similar but I worked as a helper on a milk wagon during the fifties. Every week the driver paid me with at least one silver dollar and made me promise not to spend them. When my grandfather found out about my collection he encouraged me. Unfortunately when my marriage ended, my ex got the coins.
Then several years ago an old friend from high school found a box with over 160 pounds of coins in it when her husband died. She recruited me to inventory and catalog the bunch. Over 90% of them were Canadian so it has rekindled my interest. That's why I'm here
