You folks have good memories. I don't even have a clue as to the first coin that I saved (like a Buffalo nickel, Indian penny, etc.)

Actually I don't have a great memory but my first coin(s) are easy to remember. My Dad came home one day and in his pocket was a brand new Cent that just came out. It looked like Silver and he gave it to me. From that day on he looked for those everywhere just for me. That was in 1943 and I've had all of those ever since. Virtually over 2,000 of them and they all remind me of my Dad.

My first was a girl named... oh sorry you meant coin. It was actually a medal commemorating the 60th jubilee of queen Victoria. I still have it.

I think so. I got a few at once to start with, but I can't remember what they all were.

Hey 10xloupe,
Were you actually in Tanzania when you found that coin? Being a typical American, I naturally presume everyone else on the internet is in America as well, until something shakes me out of my cozy little world view. Your location now says Canada, so you were there and brought it here, or it found it's way here on it's own. Either way, that coin has a story.

I don't have the first coin that I ever collected, but I do have the first coin that I ever purchased.

Its a Franklin mint US Constitution Commemorative. It was minted the same day I was born, and I thought it had to be a cool piece. It was $20, and if I bought on ebay, I could probably get it for $3. I am glad I have it. I look at as $20 on the tuition of being a collector.

a $17 premium is actually a good deal when I have a constant reminder to do my homework, study and know the market before I buy anything.

I still have my 1954 Quarter which was really the first coin I ever saved out of my regular change many years ago. It is currently occupying my Washington slot in my type collection. :)

I sure do! My dad gave it to me at the age of 12.
The occasion was that he had to pick his company's safe because some bright spark had managed to loose the combination keys.

When he opened the safe, there was an 1826 British Shilling, in VF condition.
He unceremoniously flipped at me, and said:
"Have this!". That was way back in 1958...........

I voted no as I do not have the first "coin" I collected but I do still have the first coin I purchased that introduced me to VAM's. I actually have no clue what the first coin was I collected. I know when I started buying coins it was always Morgans I purchased and then ventured into other aspects of the hobby but I have no idea what date or anything it was that I purchased first

Yes I have, city of Augsburg 1765 Thaler
Francis I (Francis Stephen; 1708 -- 1765) was Holy Roman Emperor and Grand Duke of Tuscany, though his wife effectively executed the real power of those positions. With his wife, Maria Theresa, he was the founder of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty. From 1728 until 1737 he was Duke of Lorraine, but lost this title when Lorraine was seized by France in the War of the Polish Succession; he was compensated with Tuscany in the peace treaty that ended that war. He was the father of the deposed and later executed French Queen Marie Antoinette.
