I've been selling on ebay for years and haven't had much issues only until very very recently. I snapped as one buyer decided to open a case with paypal and blow the case up. At the same time, he's won another item from me. Right.

I had a couple of claims from the US in the past couple of months claiming that they didn't receive their coins. Yes, after close to 10 years of sending coins to the US and I'm sure I've sent more than one hundred mail to the US - this just had to happen this year. Unless this year's US mail service has been horrible due to cutbacks. Thankfully they were both just a few dollars. Not going to lose sleep over it - however multiply that by ten, twenty, fifty, hundred of claims and they add up very very quickly. Who knows - maybe these buyers think it's a sneaky way of getting funds back without any action?

ebay's / paypal's policy is that if it has no tracking ID, sellers can't be covered. Sure - if the item is valuable enough. But what if the coins are worth let's say less than 10 dollars and the postage of normal air mail is about 3 dollars and registered is 15 dollars? Yes, shipping from Australia unfortunately is not cheap. What would you do? Would like some recommendations here.

You can always put a disclaimer that shipping by air mail is at one's risk but how can one tell if the seller is doing the right thing or not? Can't blame them. Needless to say, they are more than welcome to keep their money but I don't want another transaction with them. Would you?

Apologizes in advance as it's not really numismatics but at the same time, would like to hear if any have gone through the same stage as me as well as some tips. Yes, I know some will point out very quickly that it's ebay but that's not a solution.

I had a weird situation lately where (I used a close relation's ebay account) the top bidder had "PayPal troubles" and only responded to anything a WEEK later - "hey, can I use my friend's PayPal account?"

The second-place bidder had already purchased the coin... too late! Yet ebay is withholding payment for 21 days... not a good first sale for me!! (The account has 100% feedback with 150+ ratings)

I stopped sending coins to The US and elsewhere overseas last year because of paypal claims.

I always send registered with tracking but It takes forever for the items to arrive in the US.

I had 5 or 6 claims for "Item not received" about a week after I had sent them (It can take 3-4 weeks), Paypunk issues the buyer with a refund (out of my account) and eventually the item arrives at its destination.
Out of all of these buyers only one had the honesty to return the refund, The rest of the ratbags simply kept the coin and the payment.

I feel your pain Mate , Believe Me I do

disclaimers for "mail cheap at buyer's request/responsibility" won't matter.

i talked to ebay (phone call) to verify, even if the buyer agrees in writing to assume the risk, although it might satisfy ebay (rep said 50/50) that nothing, other than tracking, will satisfy paypal, and as a seller you are NOT protected.

I live in the US and I've bought coins this year from Australia, Germany, Portugal, Canada, Spain, and Sweden this year. Every time they've arrived at my house within 1-2 weeks. Almost all of them were relatively cheap coins and did not have any tracking. I'm guessing you are just having a string of bad luck.

It does seem like international items sometimes are segregated from domestic mail and may be subject to issues domestic mail isn't. Last month, I had one package sit in my local post office for 3 weeks before I called and asked about it. They were able to locate it and let me pick it up. Who knows what would have happened if I didn't call them after 3 weeks. That's the only issue I've had, and it was a 4 kg box rather than an envelope.

I honestly think you need to give a full refund when it does happen knowing that 1 or 2 out of a hundred times it will happen, but that everything will average out in the end.

I've also mailed countless packages in the past years and never had an issue, until now. First, just last month I had an ASE disappear somewhere between the buyers PO and his mailbox. I was not held responsible but I refunded the $31.20 anyway.

Now I have a package of model airplane engine parts that also have the "delivery status not updated" message on the tracking, this posted after it went "out for delivery". This one's a priority mail package so it is insured for $50, but the values is over $60.

I don't know what's happening with the USPS but losing 2 of my packages while "out for delivery" within a month is quite disturbing. With what they're shelling out in entitlements it's a wonder they even have gas money for the mail trucks. I see a need for a private mail delivery service, actually several of them to entice competition.

Personally, there's no way I'd send ANYTHING without tracking....and you discovered why. It's not worth the hassle and loss of $$$ (even it is just a few bucks). There are far too many noobie and shady buyers on ebay that are out to screw sellers.

To make it worth your while, stick to selling only high dollar stuff overseas that your buyer is willing to pay for shipping/tracking/insurance on. Selling little stuff to someone on the other side of the globe will gradually burn you $10 at a time.
