It was a War Nickel, bought by my father for me when I was 6 or 7...now I collect them again, as I feel guilty I lost it and now he is dead.

Yes, it is an 1864 IHC given to be an aunt many, many years ago! This aunt also helped me in my early days of collecting with Queen Anne & George III coins of Britain.

Yes, Austria 10 groschen 1971. It's probably one of the cheapest coins in my collection but it's staying there.

I sure do! It's a Canada, 1949 silver dollar, recently slabbed via I.C.C.S. as an MS-65. It's a coin that has been with me since 1974 and will be with me till I decide to liquidate my entire Collection. I've had ample opportunities to upgrade this coin to an MS-66/67, however, it's the sentimental value that makes it an MS-70 in my eyes. Glenn

My grandparents used to give me large amounts of pennies and help me fill out folders when I was a child, thats how I started collecting.

It is a 1925 Standing Liberty quarter, Good condition, maybe, the date very much readable thanks to the recessed style. I bought it at a Woolco department store. I cleaned back then (late 70's) with a baking soda paste with water, and it retoned terribly, you know the black kind of tarnish.

The two Eisenhower dollars are still living the life in a Dansco album. Like Just Carl, I did not sell my coins.

You don't have to sell a coin to not have it anymore. Little buggers like to get lost. Especially when you move. Especially when you move across the continents. And then there's a giving away thing that carl mentioned.

True. I did trade some roll-found silver duplicates for coins that I needed.

No, my first was a 1991 bullion ASE, sold it when silver hit the high $40's. Wish I had kept it though as I have now come close to completing my ASE set.

You folks have good memories. I don't even have a clue as to the first coin that I saved (like a Buffalo nickel, Indian penny, etc.) because I am sure I spent it on candy or soda or a comic book after looking at it for a week or so. I do still have my 1893S Morgan that I bought when I was 14 years young. But back in the early 60's there were many coins still circulating that are considered to have value now, silver coins, buffalos, indians, libertys, etc., we kind of knew they were rare back then but we just spent them anyways.
