This should be a fun list to compile. I've been pondering what coins would make the cut on this one. I'll start off with a few and edit the original post as additions are made. Feel free to make any corrections and add on. Draped Bust quarter 1796 Capped Bust quarter1824 Flowing Hair Half Dollar 1794 Draped Bust Half Dollar SE 1796 Draped Bust Half Dollar HE Tough...maybe 1801? Capped Bust half dollar LE 1815/2 Capped Bust half dollar RE 1836 Flowing Hair Dollar 1794 Bust Dollar 1804. Not sure if you'd count this as an actual coin that can be attainable for a type set. If not, which date would be next? Here's one that I'm looking for. I don't even have a place for it in my Dansco Album. 1996 W Roosevelt dime.

Well, I'll add The Morgan, the supposedly-melted 1895-P. Failing that, 1895-S or 1889-CC would do for keys.

Hmm...should we add in the mint-struck issues that are at least attainable (like a 1895 morgan) or go for the fabled coins? What do you guys think?

well there are NO 1895 Morgans known to exist today and is still to this day questionable if they were ever even minted with the 1895 date on them so that would just be a hole in the book if that was what you were looking for, about like saying you wanted to add a 1964 Peace or 33 double eagle even though some of these are known to exist owning them is illegal so I think they should be crossed out of the list even though they are the key of the key dates but just impossible to obtain

Okay guys, seems like there's a little disagreement here. Which one is the IHC key, the 1877 or 1909s? I personally think it's the 1877, but feel free to give other opinions.

Tex, 1996-w is a very good idea thanks, I am going to take out the 1965 clad I have in there now and replace it with the 96-w thanks. Bruce.

Still the 1909-s is a nice key date as well, and has lower mintage than the 1877.

Question is to ambiguous. Note you should probably state US, standardly minted coins only. Or are you including World coins? What about commemoratives? Error coins? Private and territorial gold? colonial Issues? Etc., etc., etc.
