So guys here is the next chapter in my Draped Bust dollar "Find. " Sent it off to PCGS
I was kind of expecting it to be genuine as I've had time to show it to one dealer and a friend who kno .s. Not to mention the learned opinions of the great forum family. Thanks again all.
As you can see from the pictures and what I was not expecting, probably because I am brand new to having coins graded was "genuine but not gradable" What ? environmental damage? That's what I got for 100 bucks? The good news is its genuine and a 10 arrow variety which, I believe is scarce.
I can understand how it would be hard to grade a coin with obvious damage when grading is primarily
used to determine a value . But this coin just doesn't seem to have any huge problems.
I've had a lot of fun looking at photo grading sites and other dollars for sale and thought for sure
This one would rate at least a low fine. Not entirely sure how much this grading devalues a coin.
But as they say it is what it is. I probably will sell it and put the money towards the shiny Morgans, liberty halves and Eagles I like. So thanks for listening. And, it was a pretty cool find. I welcome your comments.
