My hearing is not the best for that sort of thing. I have problems with high pitch. So, I don't really know about the "sound". But it was magnetic.

The bank called and said the Ikes were not delivered this week. It looks like I'll have to wait until next week. I'll probably pick up a few boxes of Nickels so I have something to do this weekend.

On a side note, where is the best place to learn how to grade Ikes? I have the RedBook, and I have looked at The Ike Group website. I'm thinking about sending some in to be graded but I want to be sure they are good enough to justify the cost.

Thanks

Thanks Fade, I'll check it out. I have about 1000 Ikes to go through. I also need to get a better camera. I'm currently using my phone.

My bank called yesterday and told me the Ikes were not available this week. They said Brinks was out of stock. If this is true, Brinks will have to order more from their supplier. I'm not sure who that would be? The dreamer in me wants to believe that this will force Brinks to order more Ikes from the "old" stacks sitting in the Fed's vault.

In reality, either the bank forgot to order or Brinks will just wait until someone returns enough for them to fill my order.

Even if I don't find any Silver, I can still look for the 72 Type-2's and coins with doubling. Whenever I finally get a bag to search.

Had a similar experience. Got the bank's 7 and two of which were a 73 s proof and a 76 s proof. The 73 was covered pretty heavily with some muck.

I am new to CRH, I have a local bank that orders halves for me. I was not aware that you can order Ike's? how common is this compared to halves?

First off,

Based on the responses here, It's not very common for banks to order Ikes for their customers. But some will. I would recommend that you be polite and ask around. Even if you get turned down at one branch, go to another and ask them. I have a bank that is willing to do it for me. But only at one branch, I have asked some of the other branches in town to order them for me and was told that the Ikes "large dollars" were not available anymore. I causally mentioned this to the teller at my "good" bank and she said so would look into it. Now I have an standing order every week. Although, I don't get them every week, she still places the order. It's subject to the supply that Brink's has on hand.

Don't forget to take the tellers goodies from time to time. Based on how willing they are to help you. I normally take in plain M&Ms. I always ask if anyone has a peanut allergy before I take that type in. I find a bag of M&Ms goes a long way.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Trying to confirm some info.. on Ikes, 1971-1974 and also 1976 are 40% silver, correct? I've got a 71D and 74D staring at me..I might just have to buy them today if my info is correct. I've always just rim searched, didn't know that 40% content looked the same on the rim as a newer age coin.

Only some of the 1971-1976 Ikes are Silver. Even if you cannot tell from the edge, all the 40% Silver Ikes will have an "S" mintmark. The 71D and 74D will not be Silver. As for the edges, I have found that 99% of the S-mint Silver Ikes look just like any Silver coin. A few will look like a clad coin if they were sitting in an album for a length of time. But if they do not have a "S" mintmark they are not Silver. Beware that there are also "S" mintmark Ikes that are clad. If you are in doubt, you can always weigh the coin. Find out more information here: http://www.coincommunity.com/us_dol...senhower.asp

Good luck on your Ike hunting.

This is bizarre. I want 1,000 Eisenhowers for my grandkids... for an "adventure" treasure search that will take a couple years (and will ultimately have them finding the coins), not for collecting or to look for silver content. I've checked most of the banks in my area and none of them even want to talk to me about it. When I read these posts about people handling bagsful of Ikes, I just have to shake my head... as in "how is this even possible?" The only bulk Ikes I've seen are on ebay, where people want a hefty premium over face plus shipping. All I want are coins that are clean or cleanable... coins that I can shine up so the kids will find it exciting. I thought about using something else, but nothing else provides the volume, weight, sound, feel, etc...

So... how does some John Doe noncollector get 1,000 nice, clean Ikes of no particular numismatic interest, without paying some ridiculous price over face? Is it even possible in today's world?

Thanks for your help!
