Quote:Hello,
I hope I am not breaking any rules posting to this thread. I know it has been several months since anyone replied to it.
I read every single post after deciding I wanted to try get some
Eisenhower dollar coins. I did all the research I possibly could, and printed it out (including several pages from this thread), and took it to my bank.
I just called today and found out they had ordered the coins for me!
Also, I talked to the Cash Services department at my local Houston branch of the Federal Reserve, and found out that the Feds *definitely* have Eisenhower coins for ordering, and that all that I needed to do was to have my bank call him specifically and he would work with them in getting the
Eisenhower dollar coins.
So my advice to anyone who is having trouble getting their banks to order Ikes for them:
1) Look up the local number for your Federal Reserve branch, and ask to speak with Cash Services department. If they ask why, tell them you are trying to work with your bank in ordering Eisenhower coins (this was the first step I did, but I did it in an email and I linked to the Fed website showing that Ikes can be deposited/ordered in bags of $1000)
2) Call the cash services department and ask them if they have any Ikes that your bank could order. Get their name and number (you should have gotten this in step one).
3) Go to your bank and tell them in person the name and number of the local Cash Services department of the federal reserve, and that they have told you for sure that they have Eisenhowers to distribute upon request.
4) If your bank is still hesitant, request that they give you the phone number to their armored courrier service and offer to do as much of the leg work for them as you can. Speak to Brinks/Loomis/Garda or whoever they use, and tell them which bank you are with and tell them the same Federal Reserve information you got earlier. See if they can order them from the fed for your bank.
If all else fails, try another bank. They are *definitely* available from the Feds, at least here in Houston. The guy I spoke to from the Cash Services department answered my question like it was no big deal, and he seemed a bit surprised at how happy I was to find out that the Reserve does keep Ikes on hand.
Good luck to you!
Thanks.
