I just researched online, it seems banks cannot order ikes. Otherwise, I would have a lot of ebaying to do.

on ebay, 385 ikes are worth about $650. Hence why you can't order them from banks.

Im still working on getting a bag of Ikes. Also if I had a local dealer paying just 1.10 per coin, I would defenitely order a bag every 2 weeks, then sell to the dealer or trade for 8 90%, plus my 1000$ back in a heartbeat.

Anyway, I know Ikes are available from the fed, in 1000$ bags, it says so right on their website. My brother in law, who is an occasional coin roll hunter, is friends with a bank manager, since high school. He goes back and forth between 2 branches of his bank, and one said they would get us the ikes.

Im going to explain this without using the names of these 2 banks. The bank manager in my other post, one of the biggest banks in our town, we will call them bank a, well another bank, we will call bank b, is in our town, but not as many branches. My brother in law was back in bank a, saw his buddy and asked him about the ikes, he said you got a minute lets find out right now. He
said not many people know this but 99% of banks in this town get coins from bank b!With a strange look my brother in law, said Really, the mananger said oh yeah bank b supplies just about every bank in this town with coins.

The manager called where he orders, and said hey "........." we need to order the big dollars, can you get them? The guy said hang on Ill call you back. My brother in law bsed with his buddy for a minute, they called back, and said nope, not available, they are considered "non circulating money" it gets sent back to the fed, along with old small face bills etc....

what does this mean? It means if your bank can or can not get you the big dollars is simply based on your banks ordering system. IV said it before, banks dont get coins directly from the fed, even those 2012 coins you get, come in bags to brinks etc..get wrapped for distrubution to the local banks. the 2012's show up when brinks etc.. relizes we need more dimes, pennies, as the older coins become mutulated, and removed from circulation .

My brother I law told the guy, I saw online where ikes are available from the fed, he said bring me the info, and I will work on it for you. So I am just gonna print the sheet off that shows eisenhowers available.

The following was copied from the "FAQ" section of the federal reserve from the link above.
Q:How can I obtain an Eisenhower dollar?

A: Most Eisenhower dollars are in circulation. The U.S. Mint discontinued minting Eisenhower dollars in December 1978, and the last of the Eisenhower dollars were distributed to the Federal Reserve Banks in April 1979. Because the Eisenhower dollars are no longer minted, the Reserve Banks cannot order them from the U.S. Mint and supply them to banks. Coin dealers listed in the telephone yellow pages usually have a supply of Eisenhower dollars.

After reading this thread and having my desire to search bulk ikes reignited, I did some calling around to the couriers and found a courier that not only stocks Ikes, but will gladly ship them to a bank at which I have an account. Dropped into said bank, placed an order for 1 bag ($1000) of Ikes!

They won't arrive until next Friday, if they remember to order, but that's still sooner than never! I'm pumped!
