Maybe these pictures will show the coin better...

Hard to grade when the surfaces are not original. Looks to have been heavily dipped, and lots of metal removed in the process.

Really! Are you sure it is not my bad picture taking skills. In hand it seems kind of 'matt' in appearance. I don't see to many marks.
I did a little reading and I came across one point that said, "earlier coins in the series tend to have a 'matt' appearance because of over-use of dies in the minting process."
Another stated, "weak striking (especially for the 1921 series) can contribute to coins have a 'matt' look."
I have seen coins left in 'dip' or 'silver cleaner' for a long period of time. Those coins look 'stripped' and this coin does not look like those coins. I am confused.

Surfaces do look peculiar.
I will say AU detail, possibly some environment damage such as smoke.

I could definitely be wrong, just my opinion. If sent to a TPG it would come back as AU with a details grade IMO. This coin is worth somewhere around 30-35 dollars.

It didn't strike me immediately as problematic, I just figured it was a combination of the lighting and later die state. But maybe it's whizzed or something, it can be hard to tell from pictures.

The pictures are not the greatest, but I think the coin looks just fine. The face, fields, and the eagle's wing look mostly chatter free. I think the luster looks okay. Radial striations looks like die erosion to me. I can see this coin possibly grading MS-64 or a bit better. Nice coin!

I like it, it seems chatter free and better than my 23's.

D0ubl3Eagle & muddler: Thanks for the bit of hope. I will try taking a couple of pictures outside and post them here in a while. If the coin reveals anything new, from a negative viewpoint, I will return it to the dealer.
I am trying to get a nice one to go into a 7070 if Dansco ever makes them available again...

I'm joining the positive crowd. It looks fine to me. I'm going to put it as a strong 64 to weak 65. I'm seeing three marks on the obverse (one neck, one crown, one on the right field) and nothing but some scratches on the rim of the reverse. The lustre is breaking on the eagle's feathers which is pretty typical for this series. The strike isn't superb but is pretty good.

OK, here are some images taken outside. I hope these help. I did weigh the coin and it weighed in at 26.72 gm.

I agree that it looks okay. Hard to tell but I think it is just the picture and lighting that makes the surfaces look not original.

Looks close to Gem quality to me but the photos don't show the luster very well.
