All this talk about searching rolls had raised my curiosity, so when I was in the bank yesterday I asked if they had any 1/2 dollar rolls and the teller said she got three in the other day and if I would like to have them. I told her sure since I am building a Kennedy set. So I brought them home yesterday, put them on the table, and went out last night.

I just opened them about 15 minutes ago and out of my 60 1/2 dollar rolls I ended up with 16-1967 40% and 44-1968Ds 40%! Nothing like batting 100% on my first stab at these rolls!

Nelrak, that is crazy, and I am jealous, and I almost don't believe it, but that picture proves me otherwise. Well done!! I've only looked through $80 of halves, I'm new to this as you, and didn't find any. But, I did get a bunch for my newly purchased Kennedy books, so it was still fun. If that happened to me, I would instantly put them on ebay - I think they'd go for at least $70, which is a nice little turn around and could let me go get more!

Nelrak

Searched another $1000 of halves and found one 2000 Proof, three 40%, and two 90%. I get excited each time I find one in a roll. I can't imagaine what I'd do if I found a whole roll.

That is a great find Nelrak. You should of checked to see if the person turned in any other older rolls of coins. May of been some old lady finally hauling in a ton of coins that been sitting around.

Picked up $100 in nickles, $25 in pennies, $270 in quarters, and $50 ones. Found my first star note (2003A) in the ones. Searched the box of nickles and found:
40, 41, 46, 47, 57, 60, 61x3, 62, 63x3, 65x3, 66, 67x3
46D, 54D, 57D, 58Dx2, 59Dx2, 61D, 62Dx2, 63Dx2, 68Dx2, 69Dx4, 69Sx3

Canada 1989, 2007

Buffalo nickle cull - looks to be a 1929 but you can only see the 29 of the date. Also picked up some beat up nickle I'll post pictures of later. Curious as to what happened to this nickle.

I keep anything with less than 250 million produced and putting those coins in rolls. Now to search the quarters and pennies.

I stumbled across this thread a few weeks ago, and you guys piqued my interest. I had been searching a lot of nickels and doing OK... nothing great, but OK. I had never considered halves, as I have never collected them. This story turns a bit unbelievable but I swear it is true.

While getting nickels I asked the teller if they had any halves. Between the three tellers they had $12 worth, including a 67 and a 68-D. I was hooked!

I asked my bank manager if she could get a box of halves. She wasn't sure... I guess I was the first, which I took as a good sign. I got the box and found zero silver. BUT, I did find two proofs: 76-S and 82-S. They were in great shape so I was excited.

I hit another bank on Thursday and they had 12 rolls, the hand packed kind. The first three rolls were clearly someone else's rejects. I was getting discouraged, until I opened the fourth roll. OMG! SILVER! Top to bottom. There were three other rolls that looked just like this one, and sure enough: jackpot! Here is the final tally: 17 Walkers, 24 Franklins, 1 90% Kennedy, 27 40% Kennedys, and 1 95-S Proof.

So THANK YOU to all of you on this board! I would not have asked if I had not seen your comments. I am probably ruined for life, but I am going to keep searching.

Harnessman, you think this forum is free? I had to pay 3 rolls of silver halves for the information needed to get started searching. Time to pay your dues....

Oh yes, welcome to the forum.

I've been searching nickel rolls as of late, and I've found several silver nickels and dozens of other early dates.

Welcome to the family harnessman. That is a great find, good thing you asked the tellers for some halves.

Stone - nickles and dimes are the least searched demonination to me. With pennies, quarters, and halves being the most. I use to be lucky in quarters but since the state series came out I've had a long dry spell. Searching quarters now and so far have only found a 1970P for my book. Been searching for one of those for weeks now as only 136.4 million were made.

Do you guys typically get rolls from the same bank or do you pull from several banks? I've found a big difference in what I find based on 'brand' of bank.

I get mine from my credit union. I have noticed a difference depending on source. But even with my credit union, I still get a dud box from time to time. Part of the game I guess.

I normally pull from the same bank. I get all my coins from one bank and turn them in to a different bank. That way I have a lower chance of searching the same rolls. I do keep my eye out for people that turn in rolls that don't look like other collectors at any bank.

FYI - from talking with my friendly teller at the bank I get my rolls from. Towards the end of the month is when most gas stations, grocery stores, etc. pull in the odd ball stuff to turn in. So this week or next may be a good time to hit up the banks. Is how I found $17 in old Ike dollars last month.
