I just got a box of pennies and unfortunately I am at work right now so I can't do more than just scan a couple of random rolls. While scanning one roll, I pulled out a 1910S! It is very worn, but it is the oldest coin I have found in circulation. I hope that this bodes well for the rest of the box. I get my boxes from my credit union and the teller who makes the coin orders has become a buddy. She puts customer rolled boxes aside for me and as a result, I am getting more interesting boxes. Even so, I am lucky to pull out 1% of a box in the types of pennies I keep.

Wow, I bought another batch of nickels and one penny box after that one that this week. The good stuff found in those boxes was. One 1890 penny, I amazed an person spent it . It makes wheats look bad. Very few wheats, The 68 thru 72 s mint coins I found had green spots. Serval au or bu coins in 1980 or 1960 something. No special coins in box but the 1890 cent was an amazing find for sure.
Nickel box was nothing special but it had very few pre 61 stuff . Onley good low mintage coin was an 1950 no d nickel. The rest of it was junk. Just common date 1950 something d mints, No s mints in there I need.
The best find out this week was at same bank they had over 380 worth of halfs in bank an person turned in. The bank teller told me she had in bank for over 4 monlths and I was first person who asked for them. In those home rolled coins. I found one 1966 silver coin, 100 of the same thing over . It was bu or au 2000 p coins. I rolled an 100 bucks worth of au or bu 2000 halfs. It looked like an person dumped an fed box or cut open an mint bag and rolled them up. All them are bu coins with bag marks on them coins. I think I can sell on ebay as solid date rolls of au or bu coins. They are nice coins. 10 rolls of bu coins I cant complain. I think I may get an 1972 or 1971 , 1976 bu or au rolls out them also.

I found an bank that will ordor those halfs I wanted so bad. I have an 1000 coming this wedesday. I was amazed it wells fargo bank selling them. I learned those Wells fargo nickel or penny boxes come from an cash service company and not feds like bank of amercia does. After buying those nickel boxes and searching them. To tell you truth those cash service rolls are no fun compared to fed N.f string and son inc rolls. Those fed rolls I find more stuff in them compared to those clear tubes of nickels that an cash service company rolled up for wells fargo. Since I am buying those halfs from wells fargo. I hope they dont come from the cash service companys. I think I would rather buy the fed rolls since they are beter and I find beter stuff in them.

Time to sale the junk coins and buy another batch of coins . I wish I could find an bank with free cash machices to count them. I am tired of rolling them up again. I can go thru them faster if I dont roll them.

Man I've hit a dry spell with halves lately. In the last $2800 I've only found 3 40%. Someone give me a "pick yourself up kid and knock the dust off....you'll get 'em next time"

I talked to my bank and they are going to sell me a $1000 bag of halves once the counter is full. I can't wait to search that bag.

Anyone have a feel on quarters and dimes? Are they worth searching for pre 1965 dates?

No, their not worth searching.

Stick with the halves. However, I bet the bag your going to get is all searched, for the most part. Some will come along, just enjoy it.

Dimes I hate to search since they are so small but I have. Out of about $400 worth of dimes I've only found 1 Mercury dime, and 3 silver dimes. My last silver dime was a very dark/dirty 59 out of $100 in dimes. Quarters I still search since my 9yr old is doing the State Quarter set. I've only pulled about 5 quarters out of around $800 or $1000 worth of quarters.

Lady at the bank told me she just ordered some $2 bills if I was interested. She had a chinese customer who wanted $200 worth to give to his mother. Guess as a good luck charm or something? Anyways, she just wanted to let me know in case I wanted to search the other $1800 worth of twos. Wonder if can find a star note out of that stack.

Gee Dubya75,

I would not waste your time on dimes or quarters. I been going dime rolls for monlths in south texas trying to build an dime book . I never found one silver or pre 1965 dime after monlths of looking at thousands of them.

On quarters I am building an 1965 thru 2007 book. I have went thru 400 to 600 dollars worth rolls in last weak. I never found pre 64 coins in there. I need 2004 p wis, iowa p coin to finish my book. I need an 1989 d and 1968 d to finish them.

I saying those pre 1964 dimes and quarters are gone from those fed boxes. I need those quarters or dimes to finish my book. I will need buy more rolls to find them. If you could find those silver in those fed boxes I would try to build those books. But I not trying build the 1932 thru 1964 quarter books or 46 thru 64 dime books since they are not in those fed boxes.

For me to fill the 1946 thru 1964 section in dime book and 32 thru 64 quarters books. I have been buying rolls from ebay of them to build them since I cant find them in those fed boxs. I have extra time tonight and I going buy another 400 to 600 worth rolls to search them for those coins I need. Strange I been looking for an 2007 philly dime in south texas and went thru over 200 to 800 dollars worth dimes and cant find it. Its bad living south texas since we are close to denver mint. Its so hard to find any philly mint coin where I live.

So on silver coins I think you will do beter on halfs.

Chevorlet - If your not being to picky I can search some quarters this week and find a iowa and wisconsin p quarter for you. I'm in GA so almost all I get are P mint coins. These would be circulated coins so sure to have scratches and such.

Well just finished up searching another $100 worth of nickels and did pretty well.

39, 41x3, 42D, 46D, 52S, 53, 53Dx2, 55D, 57, 57Dx2, 58Dx3, 59Dx3 and a 1935 Buffalo. I've found 3 Buffalo nickles so far out of around $800 in $.05. The 52S was the biggie since I needed it for my book. Hope my teller lady has a few more bundles of older rolls. I do better with them than the fed boxes.

Thanks for the info guys. I had a feeling that you'd say that.

Tyk--I hope your wrong about the $1000 bag of loose halves. If its anything like the partial bag they sold me earlier this month I'll go crazy. The bag they sold me had $215 of halves in it and I found 16 40%, 14 90% (two of which were Walkers) It takes them a while to fill them up so I dont think their from guys like me who search boxes. I'll let you know what I find.

Pretty sweet haul today for me. While my mom was despositing a check, I asked the teller if she had any halves. Well, she had $8.50 worth, and gave them all to me. I got 2 90% JFK's and 1 40%. I think I'm going to stop by there more often

I've been reading these posts for a couple of weeks and I just got my first $500 worth of halves from my bank today. The teller told me that they get their coins from a federal reserve bank in Dallas, TX. Will I find silver in these? I'm new to this roll hunting thing so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Where is the best place to find silver? Also got $20 in nickels, someone once told me to keep '62 and earlier nickels. Why is that? Thanks

crazy, I live in the DFW area, and I believe mine come from there though I never can tell b/c I think all the fed rolls are the same yellow wrapping. I've found a few in the first few boxes I got, but I swear I've gone through at least 10 after that with nothing so I stopped for a while. This last box was the second one I've gotten in about a two month period and I found the 2004.

Haven't been on in a little while. I got a really nice percentage with loose rolls yesterday - between 2 banks, I got 48 40%'s with only 340 dollars worth of coin (200 in Fed, 140 in hand); most came from the hand rolled, of course. Also did 2 boxes of pennies (keeps me occupied when I am almost broke, lol), and found about 15 wheats, and about 10 canadians, as well as an egyptian 1 cent thing. Updated my totals, too. Until next time...
