Interesting week. Another $1000 of halves yielded 3 40% and 2 90% Kennedy coins. I also got a 1972 proof. The surprsing find was a 1986 Ellis Island Commemorative half dollar. Who put THAT in circulation?

Since June 2007
halves searched = $4470
Walkers = 17
Frankins = 25
90% Kennedy = 4
40% Kennedy = 45
Proof = 7 (72, 76, 81, 82, 85, 95, 04)
Commemorative = 1

Little Jimmy cut the coin out and spent it on candy.

No, no, no, good Jimmy, he makes good finds for me too, like the 1988-S Quarter, the 1981-S cent that I have found from circulation.

Went through $10 worth of nickel rolls last weekend and manged to fill a few spots in my book. Nicest find was a 38-D in VF or so. Pulled maybe 10 coins from the 40s and 30 or so from the 50s. Turns out my wife had a couple of books she put together when she was growing up (we're only 30, so no big exciting finds), and now I've got her hooked on roll searching. I've been informed that "We're going to the bank every Saturday to get another $10 to look through." Can't argue with that.

I went through two boxes of halves today. One box had 1964, 2002D, 1967. The other box had (2) 40% and a 1909!!

After about $19,000 in halves that was my first Barber!

I was also very excited about the 2002D. That completes all four of the 2002 that I have pulled from circulation - 2002D, 2002P, 2002S, and 2002S silver!

On my way home from the bank I stopped by another bank. They had 9 paper rolls. I found 5 more 40%, 2 more 1964 and a 1963! That's my 4th Franklin.

Dang good day!

My best is 1 very worn Walking Liberty half. Very nice find on the 1909 Barber!

I've yet to find my first commemorative in circulation, though I have found more than my fair share of silver.

On the nickel front, I'm getting sick of getting full, complete boxes of 2007D Nickels. You would think that one would eventually yield a semi-major error (clipped planchet, off center strike, partial collar broadstrike, blank planchet, off-metal, anything....)

I don't have the patience to go through the new boxes...I've tried a couple times...it's just so boring...not finding anything but bright, new coins, all the same year....though I did go through a box of new pennies and a couple old coins were thrown in too...so I don't know.

A good day....

Bought $80 in halves at one bank and found exactly one silver-clad half (1967, circulated). Went down the road and bought $140 in halves at another bank. I found 64 silver-clads in these rolls. Many are choice BU coins dated 1966, 1968-D, and 1969-D. No Franklins or walkers, but I'm not complaining!

OK, I think some of you just answered my question. You guys finally talked me into talking my bank out of $400 worth of halves. I've just started, and found this. What is this?

Went to my 'Friday' bank today to pick up my weekly $1000 of halves only to find that they weren't delivered--what a bummer! Now I had to scramble to find some halves to search. Luckily I have a directory of all the branches in my car so I start calling the locations on my route home. I locate $400 for sure and can't get a hold of another bank but decide to stop and check since its just down the road. Fortunately they have $580 and are more than happy to sell them to me.

Ok I get home and start heating my oil (I make my own biodiesel) kiss my wife and kids and persuade my oldest daughter to help me unroll some halves. The full $500 box produced absolutely nothing .

Now we start on the $400 from the first bank and the $80 from the second bank and its slow going at first and then I hit one 90% and a few rolls later another 90% and a few rolls later another 90% then throw in a 40% (are we having fun yet?) By the time we finished that $480 produced two 40% and six 90%--but not one 90% Kennedy.

Instead I scored three Walkers and three Franklins !!

I have to admit sometimes it's nice to get a handful of 90% rather than two handfuls of 40%. Here a pic of todays find:
