Searched a $500 box today. Found the following:
21 40% 4 90% 2003 D 2004 P
All of the 90% are black in color and look like they have been sitting in the sun for years. Or maybe they survived a fire? I will try and post pics tonight. Ty

Does anyone know how much finger prints affect grading? The 1963 Franklin half I pulled out of the box is in really good condition other than the finger prints. I can actually read Pass and Stow on the bell without magnification and the 'full bell lines' (FBL) are all visible. I looked at a bunch of Franklin half dollars that were graded by PCGS at MS-63 and MS-64 and other than the finger prints mine is closer to the MS-64. It it worth getting graded? Should I try to remove the finger prints?

Good question. Take a high resolution photograph of the coin and post it on a thread so more people see it. I don't think it would be wise to do it yourself, but maybe someone knows a way to remove them. I would start a thread, though, because I don't think many people look on this one if they don't roll search. Ty

I got $100 in halfs today and found: 1 40% 1 error cliped edge 2003 D 2005 P
I also got $900 more from another bank that I still need to go through. And they also ordered me two more boxes for next week. Hopefully I find something good. Check in later, guys. Ty

Ok, that didn't take long. Weird mix of coins. I found the following: 1978 S Proof 1979 S Proof 1985 S Proof One double edge error 1 40% 3 2006 D 1 2004 P One 1776-1976 looks proof, edge is all white, possibly silver, and has two staps on each side of the head, 1960 and 1980.
Weird mix, low silver, oh well. Ty

No dealers in your area maybe? Or none that order the bags to open and sale.
Well I picked up a box of quarters when got $500 in the new Jefferson's to look at. Like I had given advice before, searching quarters really stink. Out of $500 all I found was a British 25 cent piece.
Time to see if they can order me some halves.

Tykimeister Can we get some pics? I'd especially like to see: "One 1776-1976 looks proof, edge is all white, possibly silver, and has two staps on each side of the head, 1960 and 1980." One double edge error 1 error cliped edge and some of the proofs!

Tyk, If the Bicentennial is a 1976S it could be a 40% and the extra stamps were probably some sort of 'promotion'. For instance some company was celebrating their 20th anniversary. A buddy of mine found a half dollar with two extra dates but it was 'gold' plated. Yours might be a plated clad half as well and a ring test would tell you that. I found a 1946 Walker in a box last night and three 40%. I just love finding old coins in boxes.

I used to go thru nickle rolls all the time. Always found an old one in every roll.

Fatcat161, welcome to the club! The majority of us search half dollars because they yeald quite a bit of silver. Well, some times. But get back to searching and let us know what you find. I just love finding stuff for my collection at face value. Ty

quote: Gee said I look in the book and it lists -65FBL and -65CAM under 1963. What does -65FBL mean?
FBL means Full Bell Lines. The Liberty Bell on the reverse has a set of line on the lower part of the Bell above the edge. If they continue all the way across they are FBL. Similar to the Full Bands on the Mercury dime.

Coop--thanks, right after I made the post I looked it up too. It's a shame it has so many fingerprints on it because it has the mirror like finish of a proof coin so it is probably a cameo with Full Bell lines. Here is what I found in todays $1000: 18 40% 2 90% JFK and 1961 Franklin with full bell lines (and no fingerprints this time) Oh yeah, remember my story about when I was on vacation and had two banks try to give me too much money? It happened again today. I went into the bank with $500 cash and a bag of halves to run through the do-it-yourself counter. I took my receipt for $496.50 up to the teller and told him I was there to pick up the two boxes of half dollars. He said that will be $1000. I give him $510 cash and the receipt for $496.50. He gets his little calculator out and totals it up and gives me $96.50 back. I look at him and wait for him to say "just messin' with ya" but nope I guess he was in a very generous mood . Very politely I told him he was 'a little off' and sure enough he believed me.
