I still haven't come across any 90%...I think that just means I haven't searched enough boxes!

Can someone tell me the last year JFK halves were minted for circulation? Thanks.

They still mint the JFK halves. However, 2002 was the last year they minted them for circulation. 2003 and up they cut way back on the minting of circulated strikes and you have to order them from the mint to get them. Most mintages for the 2003 and up are 3-4 million (instead of the 20-30 million). They still mint the proof and circulated JFK halves, but they cut back on the number of circulated strikes being minted. I still find lots of 2003 and newer halves on circulation, but not too many. grayhav,
What you have there is a commemorative half dollar. This commemorative was issued in 1986 for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I happened to find one last week too. It's probably worth about $3, but still a cool find!

so I'm guessing those that call other banks and buy their halves aren't members at those banks....and if not, I assume they have no issues with selling you the halves? I've only been getting halves from BOA b/c that's the only place I have an account.....i guess if I want to get serious, I should call other banks even if I have no account there? Do you bring up that you don't have an account there or what? thanks for the help!

I got my from my own bank, but I paid in cash, and they wouldn't have known if I was an account holder or not. I hadn't entered the lobby in years.
Unfortunately, most of the halves I just got are all facing the same way in the rolls - which I assume means they've already been searched.

Yesterday I experienced a "$1000 famine". Guess I was due for one.

don't worry gee dub, I've been in "famine" for a while now; I can't figure it out, but it hasn't stopped me from searching :)

Thomas--what type of banks are you targeting? Old or new? Whats your secret?
You seem to find about twice as many silver halves per box as anyone else that I see keeping track.

I have been searching penny rolls lately and in the last 30 rolls or so I found eight wheaties! Not exactly earth shattering I know but. . . 1 x 1953, 1 x 1951, 1 x 1950, 1 x 1949, 1 x 1948, 1 x 1946, 1 x 1941 and 1 x 1928 ( ). Nothing spectacular but 7 of the 8 are in Fine to AU condition. I am going to keep getting my pennies from this bank as they seem to get a bit of everything. It's been a pretty small investment for a lot of fun!

gee dub, I don't believe I find near as many as some. like I said earlier, I've only been getting my boxes through BOA, and that's it. I've probably gotten about 20 boxes, and out of all those, maybe found about 100 40% and a few 90%. I just finished a box today w/ no silver(about the 10th box in a row), but I did find 2 03s and 3 rolls of BU 1979Ds. I've never seen that before, almost like someone deposited them and they went straight to the counter all together and rolled together. I'm about to start calling other banks to get individual rolls maybe turned in by customers or something. Madman is the one who finds them all, I just don't have the time to go to all the local banks b/c most close before I can get off work :(

Well, this is a first for me. I just got finished with a box of pennies and I found exactly zero wheaties! I am pretty sure that the box has been searched. I generally find around a dozen or so on average in a box, but this time, nada - none - zilch. Ah well, there is always the next box. BTW - the oldest wheat I have found has been a 1910S which was pretty worn, but still readable.
