No silver this week, but at least the boxes were not a total bust. Add another proof (2002), and a few recent low mintage coins (02-P, 03-P, 05-P, 05-D).
Since June 2007 halves searched = $5470 Walkers = 17 Frankins = 25 90% Kennedy = 4 40% Kennedy = 45 Proof = 8 (72, 76, 81, 82, 85, 95, 02, 04) Commemorative = 1

I went back to the bank where last week I scored some silver-clads and bought their last $60 worth of halves. Along with 7 more assorted silver-clads, these rolls contained 15 BU 1969-D coins. The luster on these is very strong. Here is one of the nicer ones: I wonder where these coins spent the last 38 years?

What a crazy day! I was returning the half dollars from last week's boxes at two local Commerce Banks because they have free coin counting machines. I go to two just because it so much coin. At the first, after all of my coins were counted I could hear some coins still "chinking" in the mechanism. I asked the teller to check and we found two silver dollars: one 1976, and one 1922 Peace dollar in strong EF condition with almost full luster. WOW! The teller handed it over with a smile. Then I went to the second Commerce and before I started I noticed a coin in the reject cup. It was a 2001-S North Carolina quarter, silver proof. What are the odds? I get my next 2 boxes of halves tomorrow and it has already been a great week!

Ok, looks like everyone has been sleeping rather than roll hunting. Here is what I found in yesterdays 4 boxes:
8 - 40% 6 - 90% JFK 2 - 90% Franklins

Finished my first batch ever, $400 of halves. I wasn't too hopeful, since 70% of them were all facing the same direction in the rolls. But then one roll gave me: 1 - 90% JFK 3 - 40% JFK (also 1 1986 statue of liberty commemorative)

Picked up a few halves at the local bank. One was a 40% silver in VF+ condition with some slight tone. I was surprised to find it in the stack I got. Searched a box of nickles with the normal dozen or so 1959 or older. Box of pennies turned out to be a brand new box of 2007s. No errors yet so may just turn them back in as is. $300 in quarters resulted in zip. Not the first silver quarter in the bunch.
Well I'm in Florida for the rest of the week and plan to try and find some halves down here. Till next time.

Two boxes of halves this week, and they could not be more different... The first box yielded two proofs, but not one silver coin. The second box had a Franklin staring me in the eye as soon as I opened it. There were also 7 90% Kennedies, and 8 40% Kennedies. There was also a 2006-D. All in all, a pretty good haul.
Since June 2007 halves searched = $6470 Walkers = 17 Franklins = 26 90% Kennedy = 11 40% Kennedy = 53 Proof = 10 (72, 76, 81, 82, 85, 87, 91, 95, 02, 04) Commemorative = 1

Gentlemen, I am new both to this forum and to coins. I search halves. Here are my totals
Total Searched: $8,671.50 Found: 38 - 40% 16 - 90% (2 Franklins)
Opened a box yesterday and found 29 coins. 19-40% and 10-90%. That was a great box.
Does anyone here check loose halves? How do you get them?
Good evening gee_dubya75 :)

So, I took this week off to do some camping with a friend. Both towns I went to (Auburn & Placerville, CA) had CRH'ers. The guy in Auburn polished (yes, polished) each half, which were mostly 76's. The one from Auburn (who I believe I actually met in passing - she was buying dollar coins and was wondering if the box I was carrying out was "hers") just marked her rolls. It was actually kinda funny - 1 roll said "wow - 60's!" on it, and I thought "I hope it isn't that polisher guy playing tricks on me, or re-using old wrappers" - but it was, lol. I hit 12 banks, searched about 2000 in halves, and found... 6 40%'s. That was disappointing. But, at least camping was fun!

Have a friend with family in Florida.... anyway, I send the money and he sends me wrapped coins. We get D mint here, rarely P My best find: 2 Washington smooth rims. (gave him one)
I easily get boxes of pennies, nickles, dimes etc, but how do you get "boxes" of halves? Do you ask them to order them for you? Our local banks rarely have halves except as change on their counter, and few of those.

The banks have to order the halves most of the time. The coins don't circulate and so the banks really don't need to stock them.

I went through a box of half dollars and a box of nickels this week. A hand full of older dates on the nickels - no silver though. Found two 40% in the halves but I think a lot of the good ones had been picked out...I found a lot of these: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/...edhalves.jpgThese were just a few I pulled out, though there were more in the box... Has anyone else been finding them marked like this?

Arthrene, I have never see any marked the way you showed them. That is an interesting way of doing it though. I have searched a little over 17 boxes of halves ($500 box) in the last 3 months and never saw a coin like that. Must be a Florida thing. Here in Illinois, some idiot just colors the coin all red or blue or something. I find a lot of those.
Any answer to my question yet? Does anyone here check loose halves? If so, how do you get them?
