Pastor--that is a great box (19-40% and 10-90%). You must have been pumped!! That will surely help you out in the PS126 contest.
I would also like to know if others search loose coins (not rolls) and how they get their hands on it.

I would like to search rolls of halves but my bank never seems to have them. They sometimes have a few loose ones in their coin separator. I guess I just need to go to other banks and ask. I feel a little weird and I suppose I need to get over that if I seriously want to search rolls. Does anyone else use other banks and what should I do when I need to turn in searched coins? Any tips?
Thanks,
Jim

Welcome. I have only been doing this a few months, but here is my method. I talked to my local branch manager and I now have a standing order for $1000 in halves every Thursday (this is the day their money delivery comes). I promised her I would never bring any of them back to them because the tellers don't like the halves.
After I search the coins, I take them to the next state over (where I happen to work) and distribute them between 5 branches of a different bank chain, using 2-3 locations per week, that has free coin counters in every branch. The reason I hit different branches: their machines only hold $100 of halves per bag so they have to change the bags a bunch of times. I try to keep a low profile. :-) This method minimizes the chances that I am re-searching the same coins over and over again; it keeps my branch happy; and I have been doing very well so far. I have even found a few beautiful silver coins in the counting machines (see earlier post).
Good luck!

harnessman,
You appear to have the highest average. You mentioned that you found beautiful silver coins in the coin counting machine. How did you get access to the coin counting machine? I would love to have access to that through my bank.
Are you searching boxes from rural banks? Large banks? Big city headquarters or out of town branches? Do you have connections to your banks?
A little advice for a guy who's average is struggling :)

My daughter and I had a blast with our two boxes last night. The first two rolls produced alot of excitement since both contained silver. The second roll produced eleven keepers: 5-40% 4-90% JFK 2-Franklins It's hilarious to hear my daughter unroll the paper especially when she hits a roll with 11 bright white edges staring at her. She almost fell out of her chair. In total, last nights $1000 produced: 15-40% 6-90% 10-Franklins 2-Walkers and for you Pastor a 'gold' JFK stamped 1960 1980 CPB = 6.5

Sure--I'll post a pic tomorrow, unless Pastor posts one first. My guess is that someone or some company used this as a handout for their 20th anniversary. I think they are fairly common and would fall under the same category as a Lincoln Cent that has a JFK head stamped on it. Not sure how they plated it but my daughter almost fell out of her chair when she saw a 'gold' coin too!

Pastor -
I didn't really "gain access" to the coin counting machines so much as I was in the right place at the right time. See my post half way down page 34 (Posted - 09/05/2007 : 1:16:26 PM ).
I am friendly with the bank manager, but only because I have made a point of being so. I don't know her otherwise. Unless your bank has a real aversion to customer service, you should have no problem getting a steady supply of coins. They may look at you a little funny the first time you ask, but... oh well. Make sure you tell them that you will not burden them with your rejects. That is big.
I am rural, but not exceedingly so. I am less than an hour from two major cities.
As for my average, that is a little misleading. I had one unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime visit to a bank. See my post on page 24 (Posted - 07/21/2007 : 7:38:35 PM ) for the rest of the story.
GOOD LUCK!!

Arthene--Here are the pictures of the gold half stamped 1960 1980. This is the best I can do right now with the camera I have. The '72 is just in there for comparison.

It's a fun piece to show kids but I bet their fairly common. This is the second 1960 1980 gold JFK that I have seen in the past 2 months and I think I've seen one other date combination as well.
I just found a clad half yesterday that had a & symbol stamped on it. Why would anyone want that? Must be some kid in a metal shop class that got board and took the letter/number stamps and a ball peen hammer and got creative.

Well GW...
What is your CBP (coin per box) right now? I am at 3.11 - Pathetic
That roll with 11 silvers in it. Good stuff!
The most I've ever gotten in 1 roll is 3. The most I've ever gotten in 1 box is 29.

CPB = 6.1
Had four loser boxes recently. Out of $2000 I only pulled out 4 - 40% and a 2004S proof.
