quote: For those of you who get customer wrapped rolls, do you specifically ask for them? I would think that in this day and age all banks would unwrap them and count them before giving a customer cash, but I could be wrong.
Banks don't want to be bothered with cointing coins, too much work. One bank told me that they accept the rolls from customers and just trust that the roll is full. If not, that is just the cost of doing business. Two of my banks want me to return my halves in $500 bags & cents in $50 bags. I have a good and fast coin counter and trust my count and they have never had to adjust my deposit amount. (either I am always correct on the count or they just trust my count and deposit it) They also furnish me all the bags I want. Dan

Man you guys are lucky, I would say my last $10,000 in halves have been all SKUNK! :( I'm about to open an account at a local credit union b/c they have a customer friendly counter. Maybe then I'll start grabbing more rolls..i just feel too awkward bringing in all those coins to someone who struggles to carry a box. I just can't make myself do that very often.

Has anyone ever been charged for ordering boxes of halves? I asked my bank to order two boxes today and they said no problem. A couple of hours later they called me back and told me it would be $10 a box charge for a special order item. I told them to cancel the order, I think they just didn't want to deal with it. Oh well, I guess I'll just stick with my other bank for halves.

Never been charged even once for regular boxes. My banks are happy to help. (picking up 2 this PM) This is their "polite" way of saying don't bother me. Go to other banks in the area and see what they say. Then make that lazy/cheap bank your new "dump bank" Half dollar boxes are not special order, these coins are still produced today and in (somewhat) circulation. A special order would be Ike dollars, which can still be found in bags. I found two in my hunting carrier and paid $5 fee each and I had to go pick them up at the armored car company.

what bank do you go through that the counting machine hold 500? the penny arcade at commerce banks only holds 100... however I found one teller at commerce who was nice enough to ask why I was going through so many halves (since I am the only one who brings them in..) and when I told him he told me he would look out for any 1970 pre halves and save them up front for me.. that was very nice... needless to say when I recognized him coming into the local bar I bartend at, his first round of drinks was on me..

Just finished a box of pennies. The more notable finds include: 2 Canadian (1979, 1991), dime (2001), wheat pennies (1948S, 1944D, 1957D) and 4 1959Ds. I still need to go through them more thoroughly and I'll report if I find anything else of interest.

Had a dejavu last night or a "Ben" there done that kinda box. One of ME 4 boxes yesterday when I cut the side of the lid had a dingy Ben face looking at ME and also a '67. Happy days! I always fold the lid flap back down and flip the box over sos I can look at the bottom ends too. These two pics are what I saw on the bottom. Believe it or not it was hard to save that box for last LOL. These coins were BU till someone dumped them back into the system- they are so shiny they almost glow- got 21 of them and the dull one. All 63D's. Reason is dejavu is in October when I was into the really good boxes for a time I got one box identical to this one- full roll of BU 63D's. Now if only I can find the twin to the 236 40%ers box I got around the same time. HH all, Mark

I just returned from dumping 2000$ in halves at the commerce bank. I finally opened an account and they seemed very happy to work with me. They were much happier then when I just went in and dumped mass amounts of coins before I had an account. I befriended one of the employees who told me that he would cull the 90% silver halves and silver dollars if they showed up for another customer. He asked me what the deal was with this and how much are they really worth. I explained a little bit about it to him and I offered him more money per coin then the other guy. Of course this made him very happy. He stated that last week he sold 30 franklins and walkers to this other customer. He said they get around that number per week. I got kinda skunked on my last 2 $500 boxes only 6 40%'s. This happens from time to time. I also have my friend who is a manager at another bank who is going to get me more to sort through. Many of the tellers are happy if you generate a relationship with them and are more then happy to help. Most also say they are to lazy and dont care enough to cull the silver coins and sell them to a coin store or on ebay. Which is good for us! Great find on those franklins ME CO. I hope that happens to me soon. However if silver was in every roll this would not be any fun now would it:) My girlfriend hates when I have boxes of rolls of coins in the house. She is happier with me searching rolls and making money instead of buying expensive slabbed coins all the time.

well so far I have looked through about 75 of my 100 rolls of nickels and there hasnt been anything good. I stared with an empty book and now I have all of the dates back to 1958 and a few other older dates. A couple of the highlights were a 1962 Bu nickel and a 1964 Bu nickel. No War Nickels but I did find some that were from the 1930s. So far it is going good.

(Absolutely no critism intended, but it seems to me that many of you are collecting the rolls simply to search for silver. How many of you are actually examining the coins for errors and varieties? I went through 5000 (5 different denominations of $1 to 5 cent) coins on the weekend. I looked at each and everyone with a 10x loupe. I have found some wonderful errors. Whilst many of them don't have the same value as (say) a 40% silver, they are still collectible and fun to find. Check out the Cud on the birds tail feathers. .jpg) I suppose my question is: What are you primarily searching for? Errors, Varieties, album fillers or Rarities with silver as bonus?
