Ended up getting $110 in halfs; wanted bank wrapped rolls, but went to 10 different banks downtown and nobody had 'em. Heard a number of tellers say "every time we get those in they disappear", so I guess others around here are doing what I do! I did find a teller who had $300 in customer-rolled halfs, and I really wanted to search halfs, even though I figured these were probably someone else's searched ones. Was I wrong! Found 18 40%, unfortunately no 90%, but was thrilled! Called the bank and they are going to hold the remaining ones for me for tomorrow; I'll report on how those went. Working on a box of nickels now; will report later on that.

Done now with the nickel box; 50 rolls. Found 17 pre-1958s, oddly enough two of them War Nickels! The total so far for my informal nickel survey is: 261 rolls 89 pre-1958 6 silver nickels 1 circulated proof (1959) another box (maybe two) tomorrow!

Oh no, we have created a monster!
I have gone thru about $75,000 in coin in the last 13-14 months. I am not rich I just recycle about $4000 many times.
----- That's alot of work but probably fun too. Do you keep track of your finds/percentages? I am doing my first search this week starting off with $1000 in halves.

I found an Indian head/buffalo nickle in a bank roll. First one this year. Last year I found about 6 in bank rolls! Oh, this one is dated 1925 no MM.

Coinhunter, Yes a lot of work & fun. I have to carry everything up one flight of stairs and then back down when they go back to the bank. At work I am a bean counter, so with my hobby I am also. I wrote a complicated spreadsheet to keep track of many things. A simple entry of coin deposit VS ATM withdrawels and coins purchased VS coins found tells me all I need to know. I recycle my hobby money through 5 bank accounts.

Well I hit up my teller Friday after work. Was a little disapointed to find the new teller had given out some halves to someone (looks like have competetion). The teller I always visit did have 1 roll for me. Figured they were already searched but was wrong. Found two 40% coins. The $100 in quarters was a bust. Really only got them for the kids to search for their State Quarter set. Both kids into now...yay.

Ok, went and got another $20 in nickels. Found 1 Buffalo nickel (date worn off), 1938, 1952D, 1953D, 1954D and a 1996 Bermuda Nickel. Also searching my desk for change this morning I found a 1940 nickel. So I've been through $30 in Nickels so far and found 10 interesting coins. I'm filling out my nickel books too. I also got 4 rolls of dimes, but I gotta clean up the nickels first. Girlfriend wasn't thrilled last night when she came home and the coffee table was covered in nickels.

Coinhunter, I was keeping track by date (how many of each that I got) but that was taking up loads of time. As far as the nickels are concerned, all I keep track of are how many pre-58's I get (I have started to pull them all). With the halfs, I only keep track of the silvers, and of course the proofs (only one so far). I can search a box of nickels in about 1 1/2 hours now. I also check pennies, but since I'm looking for any halfway significant doubled die or repunched/overmintmark (not to mention the far/near AM's in America) they take me much longer, about a week to do a box. Went through $180 in halfs today the same source that I found 18 40% yesterday in $110 worth, and this time I found 20 more silvers, including three 90%! The bank might have more rolls in the vault, but when I was there they were too busy to look. I'll check back tomorrow, but I think I tapped out that branch! To the person who got the Buffalo in a roll, congrats! I'd love to find one of those, even without a date. Keep up the hunt! I'm working on a box of nickels right now; more on that later. Good luck everyone!

I finished the box of nickels. I will return to the bank I got these tomorrow and hope they have more from the same batch! Found 27 pre-58's in this box, including 4 silver nickels! My totals now are: 311 rolls 117 pre-58's (1941 the most common; 14) 1 circulated proof (1959) 1 bermuda nickel (1970) a bunch of canadian (not keeping too good track of these) 10 silver nickels (1943-S the most common; 4) Good luck hunting! Will have more tomorrow.

nice copper....I've only been doing the occasional half box...the silver is getting very rare though so I may try nickels or something. Is 1958 basically the cut off for keepers in nickels?

Today I went through 20 rolls of pennies and had one of my best hunts. I found 4 wheaties 1944D, 1955, 1955D, and 1956D a 2 cent Euro, and 2 Canadian pennies 1964 and 1982. On the end of 1 roll was a really beat up dime so I started off 9 cents ahead. I also got a really nice toned 1989D Lincoln, 1st toned coin I have found and bot is it pretty.

thomas z71, I don't know; it just seems I find a whole bunch of '60-64 nickels (especially 64; sometimes I find 5 or 6 of those in a roll). maybe I should cut it off at 59, because even though I'm not keeping track of post-58's, I don't remember seeing very many of them.
