Tomorrow's goals are two boxes of nickels, and if the bank I like to go to has them, maybe $100 or $200 in bank rolled halfs. Still saving up to buy that $500 box!

coppernickeldaddy - The "P" mintmark doesn't mean your coin is a proof either. It means it came from the Philadelphia mint. Once again, proof coins didn't start until 1975. Nice to find a coin that old though.

Yes that is correct. I know alot of people are hesitant to "spend" $500 but here is how I look at it. You buy the box, search them, backfill whatever you took out (silvers, errors, etc) to bring the total back to $500. You then take it back to the bank and cash it in. To me it's as simple as there is no risk in doing it and the only thing you invest is your time and gas money to go to the bank and back.

Just had my best overall Lincoln roll to date. It had 36 coppers and 4 Wheats. That particular box had 26 Wheats in it including a 1919, 1920, 1927 and a 1930.

One word of caution, don't take it back to the same bank you bought it from. After a time or two of this the bank will cut you off. Or, you will keep getting your old and searched coins again and again.

You need two sets of banks. Supply and dump.

hah I like that..supply and dump.

I have an account at Sovereign that I haven't used in a while that I think i'll use as my 'dump' bank. It's basically my paypal withdrawal account....I try and keep my personal funds seperate from my business (selling legos via the net) and it looks like it'll have to serve two purposes now

Let me ask yous this...when you bring back an old box, do the tellers sit there and count 1000 coins? I plan on rolling them back up, but are they gonna check each roll to make sure they're all there and waste like an hour of my (and their) day?

thanks,
--Gary

This is incorrect.

Take a look at the Coin Facts links to the left:
http://www.coincommunity.com/coin_f...efferson.asp

There were 1,149,291 proof nickels struck in 1959.

Went through the box of pennies I got 2 hours ago... I unwrap my rolls, look for the darker thicker pennies, flip to them and look for wheaties and Proofs, then I go back and seperate by decade and then by year and look them over for errors. I usually end up findhing a few wheaties and maybe a proof I have missed. So far in this box I got skunked on the number of wheaties but made up for it in years.
17 wheaties
1920 1930 1935 and a few in the 40's
Also got a 1971 proof..
Good luck to everyone!

I don't think any teller will take the time to count the coins. If they have a counter they may run them thru that. One bank teller (wells fargo) told me that they just accept what the customer says is in the roll. If it is off that is just the cost of doing business.

I have a good relationship with 2 banks (2 branches each) I have a great coin counter (very accurate) All 4 banks accept bags of coins at what I put on the bag. My account has never been adjusted. So either my count is correct after they checked it or they just take my word on the count.

I stumbled onto this site and started reading this thread and I couldn't wait to look through some coins.

Went to the bank, no halfs, got 5 nickel rolls and 2 dime rolls.

Didn't find much, nothing in the dimes.

I did find two 1939, a 1946 and a 1952 nickel.

I'm going to stop by another branch on the way home and get some more.
