It took me about 6 to 8 hours, we didn't go through them all in one sitting. We found 2 1964 Dimes in that pile.

With that particular time, I went through each one carefully. With the halves, I go through them much quicker, especially since they are larger and easier to read. With the halves, I don't even look at the mint mark anymore because the proofs just jump out at you even when they are all scuzzed up.

You've got to admit that I've gotten you thinking in your head just how many coins you can handle going through. Here's hoping that I convert you.

gatzdon,

You've got me convinced, but I haven't run into boxes at my local branch. One branch knows me and tells me exactly how much they have in rolls and lets me clean them out. (They only had $20 in nickels this week, but that's okay for this week.) The other branch nearby is clueless, and doesn't seem to understand when I ask for x$ in rolls. Idiots. They've probably got all the good stuff sitting in their vault too. I'll go to another teller next time and see if I can get anywhere there. I've got 4 branches within about 5 miles of where I work, so I plan to hit them all regularly.

I'm already convinced, you've just made it easier to acheive what I want, I think I just got over confident b/c I've only gone through about $500 total in halves and dimes, and I've gotten a mercury 44, a 64 dime, and three silver halves 64,67,68. Now I expect to find things, and when I don't, I get frustrated, but no where near to the point of quitting! I'm gonna find me a branch that will order me alot of halves, then the real fun will begin. At first I was only wanting silver and nothing else, w/ more and more posts about different errors and the like, I will likely spend alot more time analyzing them to find other valuable coins. I still need to find a way to get halves post 2000 w/o having to pay a big premium. Any suggestions? and they don't have to be perfect MS coins. Oh yea, I now have over 50 posts too so I can buy/sell/trade!!! :)

I have filled my sons flip book up to 2004 with coins found from searching rolls. People spend them and I still expect to eventually find the 2005's, 2006's, and 2007's. Every 2001 and later I sort into coin tubes and save as I think they will be still be worth something in circulated condition due to the low mintage numbers.

I just found a '76 silver proof this week. If you search enough, you will find the recent years also in addition to proofs and errors.

To me, it's more fun this way because I can honestly say I paid face value for everything in my collection.

PS. Specifically ask for the teller in charge of ordering coins. Ask them to order XX boxes for you ($500 per box). Assure them that you will not be returning the coins to their bank (and not another branch either) as this is what they are afraid of sometimes. They may ask you to deposit the money before they order if they don't know you well.

Good Luck

When you ask about the coins, don't forget to ask if they have any Eisenhowers. If they don't, ask if they can find out if any other branches have them (I know they can find out, but it's all about being polite in the way you ask).

Just got back from Vegas, and boy are my arms tired...

Anyway, went through about 800 dollars woth of coins - 500 in machines, and 300 in rolls (give or take).
Found 6 silver halves, 1 in a roll, and 5 between 3 different half dollar slots.
Also kicked butt and took names at Blackjack. If only I had had a little more time so I could check out those downtown pawn shops. Le Sigh

got 4 Sacagawea dollar rolls today and found nothing but a dime hidden in one of the rolls only to go through the 2 dim rolls I picked up and found a 1973 10 centavos columbian. For a min there I thought I had made an extra dime lol, tomorrow I shall be depositing them, then going to a different bank and withdrawing more rolls to look through

There's no U in colombia.

If it makes you feel better, 10 Centavos is worth $0.000042332. Find another 24,000 of those and you'll have a little over a buck american.

Since 10 Centavo pieces are obsolete, it probably is worth well over 10¢ to the right collector. I personally have a handful in my collection, but I picked up all mine while in Colombia.

As for searching the half dollar rolls, talk about coming off a natural high. I had a winning streak where I went through over 10 boxes with no less than 10 silver coins and quite a few proofs and other keepers. The last 8 boxes I went through gave me zip, nada, bupkiss.

To pick myself up from this losing streak, I did find a bank with $291 in Eisenhowers that I picked up yesterday. There was a single 1973 in the bunch so I think it was worth the drive to pick them up.
