Has anyone ever seen reliable info on a roll hunter finding a gold coin in a roll? Best chance would seem to be a quarter ounce AGE in a roll of nickels ( less than 1mm diameter difference ). But I would love to hear a story of someone actually finding one...and not just an urban myth.

The other possibility is a quarter eagle in a penny roll, I always dreamed of finding gold coins stuck in the counting machine when I was a teller

I think some one on the site here got a gold coin from a bank teller once when he went in for the new Presidential dollar coins. I did a search though and can not find the story and do not remember who it was now. I know there was some discussion as to if it was genuine or a modern copy. Maybe someone else will remember who it was.

I have heard of two different stories, but don't know how to find links to them. One was a quarter eagle from the 1840's (a Dahlonega one no less!) found in a roll of dimes in Vermont a year or so ago. Another was a 1/10 ounce Gold Eagle found in a roll of cents (the coin is smaller than a cent but it was a CWR. There were stories online of both but a Google search turned up nothing for me.

SD,

No, I had not heard of that story! That's amazing! That makes three I've heard of now. I do remember that the story of the 1/10 ounce Eagle was a grandfather looking through rolls with his grandson. Don't remember the particulars of the Vermont story.

I can't vouch for a gold coin, but I can verify a guy getting paid at a tackle shop with a silver american eagle as a $1 coin last year. He couldn't believe a guy would spend a bullion coin like that, but he did.

And then there's that story
(I still like the eagle one better.)
