Just curious:
Why 2008 coin has higher price on ebay? It has bigger mintage and lower initial price, so why it's more precious?

2008 $20 .9999 Silver Crystal Raindrop Colourised Coin with Crystallized(TM) Swarovski Elements [$89.95] 15,000 Sold Out
2009 $20 .9999 Silver Crystal Raindrop Colourised Coin with Crystallized(TM) Swarovski Elements - Autumn Showers [$99.95] 10,000 Sold Out

I believe the 2008 coin is the first coin with a crystal raindrop.

My guess: first in the series. I love mine.

Looking at Jpaiva's pictures, it looks like the 2008 coin has a bigger swarovski crystal?

Based on the past couple of weeks, both seem to be selling for roughly $150 each. ebay asking prices are rarely relevant.

Issue prices were $89.95 and $94.95. Not much difference.

Unit sales were 13,122 and 9,998 respectively and like some have said, the 2008 was the first which often translates to a premium in the secondary market.

Or maybe it the colour - no accounting for taste.

On a related note, which series of colored maples look nicer? 2001-2007 or the 2008-2012?

One thing I don't like about the older set was that the packaging between the years were not at all consistent.

One thing I don't like about the newer series is how much more they cost! :)

I collected the first series -- the $5 coins -- as an extension of my SML collection. When the RCM switched to a $20 coin and added the crystal in 2008, we parted ways. The new series appears to be nicely done, but I drew the line and haven't looked back!

Agreed on the packaging - especially those silly plastic folding displays that the mint used for a while.

But I much prefer the earlier colour SMLs to any of the crystal coins.

the 2001-2007 color maple is considered as special edition of bullion maple leaf, they have the same face value and finish, with 9999 and "Fine Silver 1 OZ" text.

I like both.

Because the 2008 has the RCM Logo?

I have seen several instances where the 2009 was more than the 2008. I think the prices of these will fluctuate depending on the sellers and dates of posting.

It's not a big deal to see higher price: highest "buy it now" for 2009 is 300$ while lowest 2008 is $170 ;)
Thanks for all replies.

first in the series usually costs more
not a fan of colour and gluing rocks on coins though.
