They may be including that in all the grading now which would be news to me but I hope they are. At least at first they made it sound like the secure plus was the only way to get the + grade

Yeah that's correct basebal, they did only issue + grades through secure plus at first, they have switched sometime since, I had a coin come back ms62+ back in October of 2011, that was submitted as standard.

Im actually happy to hear they did that, will give a more realistic population report instead of the inflated + just because people werent paying for it.

Yeah that secure plus feature has no affect on if the coin comes back with a plus grade. I had two $2.5 Indians graded Secure Plus last week, and I have no idea why I paid the extra $15 per coin.

Quote: Unless theyve changed it you have to use the secure + service to get the plus designation just like you have to pay to have varieties attributed
They didn't and you don't. The + grade and Secure Plus service are not in any way connected. PCGS is kind enough to explain what Secure Plus is, on their website, so we don't need to guess.

The + grade was in fact connected to secure plus at first, and I'm aware they explain it on their website. You must have missed the part that says "Increased value of high-end coins within each grade". Id be interested to hear what that could possibly be referring to besides the plus grade

Quote: Id be interested to hear what that could possibly be referring to besides the plus grade First, this is what it doesn't refer to. Getting a better grade in return for a higher fee. There are graders that will do that. PCGS isn't one of them. Mostly it just means super high quality imaging of the coin that would be better at detecting imperfections, alterations, and re-submissions. Also, with a high quality image, I guess it would be easier to identify stolen coins. But then, you could probably produce extremely high quality images yourself. Keeping in mind that + grades are mostly meaningless for most recent coins. + designation is only applied to coins graded 68 and lower. Most recent coins are being graded 69 and higher.

More fun with extreme closeups. Here are three pics of the available reverse proof ASEs. The 2006-P, 2011-P, and 2012-S are presented here for your viewing pleasure. These pics are 4x reductions of the original photos and are cropped for presentation here. What we are looking at is the eagle's beak on the reverse. These pics are roughly 15,000 DPI or 1.6um per pixel (original photos are ~0.4um per pixel). The differences between the 2006 & the newer coins are obvious. The differences (if they are real and not simply anecdotal) between the 2011 & 2012 coins are more subtle. The 2011 devices appear to be polished to a higher level but the 2012 fields appear to have a slightly smaller laser dot size or possibly a more random dot pattern, giving it fields that more closely resemble those of the 2006 coin. The 2006 coin was not produced with separation between the fields and devices as good as the newer coins and the devices were not as highly polished. Clearly the newer production techniques produce generally better looking coins, now if they could just dial the laser dot size down a bit more and increase the randomness of the location/dot size to even better emulate traditional sandblasting. 2006-P RP 2011-P RP 2012-S RP

ANY time I return sets to the mint, ( which has been more lately than ever before ), I call the CS REPS, and because the coins are damaged, I am told to mail in the shipping receipts and they mail me the cost of the entire return shipping, which I suggest you do the same, Anyone who received anything scratched, spotted, mottled, worn die specks showing through the finish, etc........

YEP, I received that email yesterday. They are lowering their price to $449 (from $499) for the set in PCGS FS 70.
We will see more market movement in a month or two once the official final mintage is release....
