I purchased this hammered ha'penny today at the coin show in Auburn, Mass.1344-1351  Halfpenny of King Edward III, London mint, 16mm. Third or Florin coinage obv: EDWARDUS REX rev: CIVITAS LONDON

This is my first hammered silver penny, just acquired it recently. Edward I Bristol mint penny, class 9b, AD 1300-02: Obv: +EDWR ANGL DNS hYB, DWRANGL misstrike - Edward King of England Lord of Ireland, crowned front facing bust with star on breast. Rev: VILLA/BRI/ STO/LLI, LLIVILLA mis/double strike as are pellets in corresponding angles of cross. Weight: 1.3 grams. Dia: approx. 18mm.   Edited by EarlyMilledCoins

Again I am really impressed by the coins of t360 and equally so by the ones from EarlyMilledCoins, dooly, and kuh_85.
Dooly I have to ask, is what appears to a half coin that t360 identified as King Henry III long cross coinage 1247-1272 a full coin or was it cut in half for some purpose.
This question probably shows my lack of knowledge but I am curious by nature.
In any event I am always impressed by the coins of antiquity and wish that I could run across them at any time.

Ghostrider; as far as I know it was not uncommon to have coins cut in half to provide lower denominations as there was a shortage of change in those days. If you had to pay 1/2 penny for some goods and only had a penny then you cut it in half. Remember that they were Silver and worth their Silver weight.
They were also worth quite a lot in spending terms; you could buy an awful lot with a penny in those days and it's unlikely that the poor would have seen that many of them.
