@elkslayer132, can I ask you a questions please? Since you've probably seen a lot more coins than some of us combine. Say for a low mintage coin, is it possible to find one that has a COA number twice or even three times higher? My understanding is that the mint does not mint all the coins at once but they might have the COAs printed in one batch. Has this always been the practice? Or is this just recent? Is it possible/suspicious to find one such coin?

Thanks in advance!

I have never seen one like that but I have heard of them just a mint error that could not be fixed at the time it does not happen very often.

@elkslayer132, I should have been more clear. The low mintage that I referred to are really the bad performers at issue time. Say for example, a projected mintage was 10,000, but only 2,000 were minted and sold. Would there be high number COAs among those 2,000?

@tocoins:
This sometimes happen. One notable example is with the 1998 10oz Silver Maple Leafs (which have sterling silver COA bars with serialized number stamped on). Although only around 13,000 were minted, COA numbers can be found as high as in the 20,000s. The explaination in this case is that the COA numbers and order of sales was not synchronized. The planned mintage was 30,000 and only ~13,000 was sold.

@poboxw, thanks for your answer! Does anyone have such example in their possessions? Would love to see a real example of this.
