This inspired me to get some rolls from the bank today and I was pretty surprised when I found a 1943 s in the first roll.

Nice, I got a 43 s. The only coins I have from the war are penny, nickels and dimes - 1943 s. All of them

Many moons ago, I happened to have found a 1945-S nickel in my dad's pocket change. I noticed it was different as well as a pretty old coin, so I begged my dad to let me have it. He said yeah and I ended up with one of the favorite coins in my collection.
The End

I got a 1942 Nickel in change the other day. I got all excited until I noticed there was no mint mark above Monticello...

My first War Nickel was a 1943-P from my grandmothers change back in the mid-70's. I've only found 3 or 4 in change since.

I got my first this past year - a 1943 S at my local bagel store. To say I was excited would be a huge understatement!

They were the last silver to disappear from circulation even though two have more silver than a dime. In 1966 they were as common as ever though diluted a little by the '64 mintage. If you wanted it would be easy to convert your money into War Nickels as late as 1967 but they disappeared suddenly after this. All the silver was gone by the autumn of '69 unless you could find 40% half dollars which were around. Since 1970 I've found about 50 of them but I used to search nickels and most came at that time.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Never in pocket change. Just through roll hunting on occasion.

Being a cashier I usually see 1 or 2 a week but they were always so rough that I traded them for melt. I never claimed to be the smartest collector.

I recently went through $600 in nickel rolls and found three War Nickels: two 1943Ps and one 1944P. All are dark and worn slick but still exciting finds. However, the better find was a 1942-D Jefferson in xf condition.
