I agree with Commems and a huge thank you!, for your post in this matter. I like these coins and if there were $10 ones I think they'd make a unique tip to give some one. I'd use them in this capacity a lot. It bugs me the people buying 20/30 just to return them to their bank, so they can earn the 2% cash back on their credit card. I feel this is a waste of the coin. @ SPP those are great antidotes and it's great to see some awareness of the coin spreading. I'm sure it's acceptance was a lot different at banks in the 1st yr. I would also hope in Ontario home of the Ottawa mint with its advertising there would be more acceptability. It's a great little no risk coin for beginning collectors, and an affordable gift of art & money. I don't see why there needs to be so much disharmony. I too learned a new word with fun in it! @ Arianzo your post made me laugh!

The irony in all this for me is that we went away from the gold standard and it seems the public wants it back. lol

I used one yesterday. I took a taxi to a meeting, the fare came to $17. I flipped the coin to the cabbie, and said, "keep the rest, and I need a receipt". The cab driver looked at it, shrugged his shoulders, tossed it into his change tupperware and gave me a receipt for $20...
I tried to keep one in my pocket, to wear down as a pocket piece... but $20 disappears quick when you want a beer...

I wish I could try spending one here in the state. Unfortunately, I sold all of them on ebay....

I like the idea of spending these coins, but they are very popular in my international trades and all my spares are very quickly finding good homes abroad instead of in my pockets!

So after reading the many posts on this topic I have to ask : would it be a safer bet to just collect circulation coins and for go the collector coins and in doing so guarantee yourself at least a better option if you decide to sell or need to sell to a ban k ?

In my opinion, numismatics and bullion are the only things worth collecting, unless you view the hobby as one of consumption. What I mean by that, is that if that Glass butterfly coin calls to you, and you are fine with never seeing your money again, even a fraction of it, go ahead, buy it, and don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise.
But people need to understand that the difference between buying a NFLD 1946 Nickel and a kilogram silver mint product is MASSIVE.

Thought that I'd update this thread with today's experience of trying to redeem the $20-for-$20 coins.
BMO branch at First Canadian Place in Toronto refused to redeem them.
RBC branch at Front&Bay redeemed them with little fuss, even though I wasn't an RBC client.
Maybe this is all well known. It corresponds with what I understood.

Since RCM rep sent a mail with instructions to one of the managers in my TD branch, I returned them my duplicates of 20for20 and 2 my 100for100 (in which I not interested any more). So I came there 3 times and experienced no issues. (but they refused previously, prior mail was sent).

I still like the 20-4-20 series and hope it continues.

Ya I might have to do the same, I have a bunch of 20 for 20 I might unload, maybe even some 100 for 100 buffaloes. I guess I need to find a bank that will take them.

Do the same, like I did, Northerncoins. But the rep and bank tellers (prior I tried some other banks), all told me, that it has to be the bank that you have account with. And for them this transaction is like direct deposit, in the system will not be mentioned silver coins.

Nice balanced design on the latest women's world cup 20 for 20. The frosting is a bit rough though - she looks like she's wearing angora shorts and fuzzy slippers.
