Just wanted to get some opinions on this blurry auction photo. I took a small gamble on this one and I hope it pays off.

I would say it's probably a D.

What does the seller say it is?

Here is my example. I was told, by a third party, impartial observer, that it was "a nice looking 'S'."

My first impression is/was that your coin is an "S."

Look at the ends of the S. The vertical line on either end.
But I can see a "D" as well, if I squint my eyes.
How much of a "small gamble?"

I'm still saying that it is an "S."

IndianGoldEagle, there are a number of factors leading me to believe that this particular seller genuinely does not know much about coins. The seller simply describes it as a 1912 nickel, and it is a small lot with a few other coins.

matthew, we're only talking in the $10 range here. So it's not a huge deal either way.

After looking at the photo posted by matthewvincent, I agree it is a 1912-S. Sounds like you did find a giant bargain.

10 dollars is not a big gamble.
I doubt that you can do bad with this coin.

Now that the auction is over, I suppose it's safe to post a link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271028745560

Was going to get it for just under $5, but someone bid it up to the final price right at the last second. Luckily I placed a max bid at $10.

I'll find out for sure what it is in a few days!

Did you win all four cons for under $10?
If so, not a good deal but a GREAT deal!

Yep, the fact that the 1936(D or S) Merc is a hole filler is just another bonus!

It appears that the Asian coin is a South Korean 100 Won, which is odd because I happened by chance to find one in a coinstar last Friday.

Well, Numismedia says an 1912-D nickel is worth $4 in Good. And the Merc is worth at least silver price ($3-ish). And the other 2 coins are bound to be worth something as well. So you did quite well anyway even if it's a D

(IMHO looks like a S though. But who knows...)
