I haven't done much at Fern ridge, the local White's dealer and a couple of guys from the club live out that way and they keep it pretty clean. I try to find out of the way areas that others may not have pounded too badly.

I have pulled out quite a few old coins, my oldest is an 1888 Indian Head cent from a park in Eugene. My oldest silver coin is a 1903 Barber dime.

I've always wanted to try that. Are the dug up coins in pretty bad shape ? I would imagine copper would get pretty corroded.

Yea the older copper comes out of the ground pretty corroded, I've only found one IHC that looked nice and I suspect it was a modern loss. The silver comes out of the ground looking nice though.

Most modern change that's been in the ground for a while almost always comes out stained, I separate the cents from everything else and run them through a tumbler for a few min's to remove most of the dirt, then I dump them into a coinstar machine (and I'm sure they love me for that..lol) Everything else gets ran through the tumbler for a couple of hours to shine them up before I take them to the bank.

I really like the idea of this as I am thinking by going to pawn shop versus say the coin shop you might get nicer grades as they might be just buying them for the silver value and not numismatic value. I might consider doing this with a mercury set might be fine just to see what I can get at a pawn shop.

Sirdizzy - The Mercury set is very obtainable overall. With only the 16D being the Key.
I'm down to 13 total needed after a few weeks of buying.

Nothing wrong with a Whitman Album. I think Silver coins stand out better in Blue than in that Brownish color.
Example is from my Album. My-Pawn-Shop-Mercury-Dime-Set-Start!

I plan on moving forward to the one ds is talking about. No worries about the glue or damage with the whitman, and I'd like to see the reverse on alot of them with the FSB
Did grab 2 fillers today, since It has been too long since I've bought a Merc. 45s and 40p
