I am a fan of dansco because I like to be able to see the reverse of the coin as well, although I do have a blue book might be a whitman for my Presidential dollars that shows the reverse as well. I need to get a dansco for my Statehood Quarter set my mom put together for me for my birthday a few years back (she did the p and d for me).

Cg how much are you paying per average on a coin? What grade do you normally get? I do like the idea of this set. When I was a kid back in the 80's I remember I found a Mercury dime and thought I was so rich I hoarded that thing (still have it, it was 1944 and I just put it in my sons starter type set) thinking I had found like pirate treasure or something and that it must be worth a $100 LOL ahh the joys of being a naive kid huh.

I have always wanted to put together a set of something and to me, the Winged Liberty Dime seems like it is achievable and affordable, even in a higher grade set.

I like CG's story and this thread because he was lucky enough to have access to the shop he does and get them at very affordable figures. My guess however is that he will slowly but surely upgrade to higher end examples where they remain affordable. You can still get MS/FB raw from '42 - '45 for less than $10 from a lot of bayers.

I am paying 2.50 per coin.
95% I've paid for at that price(minus the 31d, 16p UNC FSB, and I think another one, 26s maybe)
I try for VF or better for the teens/20's. XF for the 30's and UNC for the 40s. I have gotten about 10 MS raw coins for 2.50 each from the 40s.

I will be upgrading along the way, Just hate to see holes in my sets LoL

I have the Intercept Shield album for my Mercs. It's a bit more expensive but I love the rich look it has.

Don't know why but so many just don't know the difference between a Folder and an Album. Yes many Whitman Folders are Folders. But just like Dansco, Whitman, Harris, US Mint, Intercept shield and many more companies make ALBUMS. Those are the ones you see both sides of a coin. Albums are one thing and Folders are just Folders. For some odd reason when people say Whitman, they think those are automatically Folders.

CG

I was in Roseburg on Sunday for a Geocaching event and as we were driving around I had to wonder what shop you were getting the coins at, not that I would have been able to get many anyways. It just would have been nice to see a pawn shop that actually had coins at a fair price. lol

Carl its because Whitman is famous for their folders and not their albums. I never see anything but the folders in the coin shop for whitman, I did check my Presidential dollar album and it is actually a Whitman but I think I got it at Wal-mart not a coin shop.

Yeah, I'm disapointed, not as fun looking through the boxes, since I'm down to 8 needed, 3 being NEVER in a scrap box.
