Quote: Doubled horizon line (DHL 2) is the top horizon line only is doubled. With the exception of the no island variety (end member of the Die Deterioration), ALL 1968 coins have the top horizon line doubled...

1971 PCGS MS-65. Like the 1970 coins, this year was bad for weak strikes. I have yet to see a nice, fully struck, business strike coin. This one was super nice, with a really clean obverse, but due to the weak strike, I suspect it barely made the cut for a PCGS MS-65 grade.

SPP-Ottawa What are you looking at to determine a weak strike? Is it the same process for all coins?

1971 to 1973 should have some wonderfully toned silver dollars, since they were placed directly in the clamshell cases, without capsules...

SPP, you are correct as always. My '71 looks more toned in hand than the microscope pic shows and I took some of '72 onward to post in the coming days. The '72 in particular has a nice tone.

Hard to see in this pic, but this has SPECTACULAR rainbow toning. It does give a some indication of the original packaging. Coin uncapsuled but in a plastic holder The holder snug fitted into an insert in the clamshell (Not shown) A black clamshell case approx. 3"x2"x1" I also have a 1971 that has just subtle indications of golden toning.

This one has some nice 40 years of aging on it.
