Mintage numbers for 1870 Carson City mint:
1870 Quarters: 8,340 1870 Half Dollars: 54,617 1870 Dollars: 12,462 1870 Half Eagles: 7,675 1870 Eagles: 5,908 1870 Double Eagles: 3,789
I reiterate: Pretty Dang RARE!!
I am not very surprised by the lack of CCF 1870 CC ownership!!
But, many more years to follow!! It's all good! Wouldn't it be cool to have one of each? Wouldn't it be even better to have one of each in MS-65?

Just to put things in perspective, PCGS to date has only certified 32 1870-CC Double Eagles, with AU53 being the highest grade. 35-45 known

Ave, Vermontensium!
Something about the wear and the location that this half came from just screams history and makes one wonder about the stories it would tell... if only it could. Sigh.

Vermontesium, I was with Rusty Goe this past week at the Carson City Coin Collectors of America meeting this past week. I will be returning to New England today and Thursday I will see about posting pictures of my complete CC half dollar collection. For all in this community interested in joining the C4OA may contact me about the benefits of the club. Our club journal Curry's Chronicles has won numerous numismatic literary awards.

Quote: Nice one Moe. What grade do you give her? Probably a net EF40. IMO, the wear on the right thigh of Liberty is better than EF40 but the hole and gouge in the right field of the obverse and the reverse scratch (throught the R) at 3 oclock and the small rim ding at 5 o'clock bring the grade down for me. But with only 214,560 minted, I wanted it!
