Error Ike's? I would be happy just to find ANY Ikes at a bank or anywhere. If keeping all I find counts as collecting errors, then yes I do collect them. Not really looking for anything in particular, but a good coin to pull out of your pocket to mess with younger people that have never seen one.

Quote: I wonder if the bank is "required" to send in unusual coinage that customers bring in such as Ike's or any bigger dollars that the bank has no idea what it actually is....it would be nice to hear from someone who worked at a bank or knows a good teller...I know most tellers will give them away because they don't want them in there box all the time because most people don't want them...any ideas? Bank teller here. There is no such requirement. We don't get Ikes all that often; maybe one or two every couple months, although there seems to have been a slight uptick in the last couple weeks, with 27 in the last 2 weeks or so (all of which I've bought ). All of our tellers are more than happy to get rid of halves and any dollar coins, including Ikes. Never seen a Morgan or Peace dollar in circulation (we do have a teller who has once before), although an ASE was deposited right around New Years. Even if I didn't buy up the Ikes as they come in, they wouldn't last long anyway, since at least a couple people a day will ask for them.

Once I asked a teller if she had big dollars and she said "if I did I wouldn't be selling them to you."

They ARE out there. Just keep plugging away for them. I collect the Errors, and trying for MS65. The sleepers might be the 1971 (P), 1978 P, 1977 D, if you nail a "65." Watch out for TONED, any date Mint.

Haven't really looked at them in a few years but am only missing the 71s, 72s, 73s, and 74s from my whitman folder I think.

Haven't really looked at them in a few years but am only missing the 71s, 72s, 73s, and 74s from my whitman folder I think I was able to discover many 71s 72s, 74s, but only (1) 73. BU quality does not seem to be a problem. Out of every 1000 coins ... they seem to be about 100 BU The hard part is getting rid of the junk. I do NOT take them back to the bank. I get my fair share of .999, .90, .40, ...... But I am really gathering Railroads, Lamination, Cuds, Toned, Tilted partial collar errors, Broad strikes, or anything just weird. If it is real, & looks funny, I want it. My best impossible dream is to be in the MINT when a die press craters, and then I get to haul out the last 100 coins in the bin
