Never mind. I should have googled a little before posting. I can see how this coin was created. I wonder why they would release such fakes into circulation.

just a note. I search Kennedy half dollars and find this type of thing quite often. sometimes there are two headed coins and sometimes things like two halves put together with a hollow compartment inside. Sometimes there are even other coins like quarters and dimes inside the half dollar compartment that have been machined down to fit. You'll know these fake or created coins because they don't have the characteristic ring of a solid piece of metal when you plink them together with another coin or on a hard surface. Just listening to your coins can reveal some info.
