Total stupid newbie question. There is a major show coming to Dallas in October. I have some notes I would like to try to sell. Are you allowed to take notes to these shows and sell to dealers?

I am fairly certain that you can sell to the dealers at coins shows.

The only stupid question is one that is not asked.

I am sure that I am plagiarizing someone.

Whatcha gonna sell?

By then I should have in my possession some 1914 Large Size $5 Federal Reserve Notes and 1918 Series $1 Large Size National Currency Notes from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.

You can absolutely sell to dealers at a coin show. That is one of the reason's they are there.

Don't forget to find out a value for them first, so you know how good of a deal you are getting. You should get within 80% of that value, from a dealer.

These are suppose to be high quality notes. But since the show is here in a month I figured I would go with a price in mind and if I don't get it then off they go to be graded. Problem is figuring out the value which seems to be different depending on what source I reference.

My wife sets their value at what I paid for them

That price would be a good start. At least you might be able to make a profit from them, depending upon how long ago you bought them. So did you just buy them and are waiting for them to arrive?

Absolutely, dealers love to have coins and notes walk in for sale.

Yes dealer enjoy looking and buying notes that come through the door like that.

Only remember: dealers buy at wholesale and sell at retail!

Some dealers will be cold. They pay good money for a table at the show and don't like people walking around selling for free.

I don't know much about notes, (couldn't hold a tune in a bucket...get it?! Sorry) but those are some great looking bills you have there!

The way I see it, they pay for that table for a number of reasons and picking up some new product would be one of the reasons I would think.

Anyone who is "cold" is probably not someone who you would want to deal with anyway.

I really like the 1918 FRN $1.00 notes. I have been thinking of putting a set of them together. Can I ask what range (dollars) you paid for them.

I know where I can get a New York .. around $50.00 .. but not as nice of notes as yours.

Here is the description from the auction. "Super nice nearly sequential CU trio of 1918 Series $1 Large Size National Currency Notes from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Virginia (E-5)." Venture a guess first, including auction fees and S&H. That way if I paid too much I can gracefully lie about the price.
