Lovin this thread. This is great.

Btw, my Jansjo lamps came yesterday. Fell in love with them immediately. My high tech dad with all his photography gadgetry and gizmos loves em too. I'm gettin my dad a pair as a thanks for all the help.

Here is the result I got from the jansjo lights with a touch of fiddling with the settings in the preferences.

Just-Got-My-USB-Microscope-Camera-!

The only tweaks I did was put the auto white balance back on (it was on and off and the program seems to randomly change it sometimes lol.) and slightly adjusted the saturation.

I have one of the lamps almost level with the TOP of the microscope out a few inches pointing about a half a inch off the edge of the coin and then I have the other one a stretched hands width above it slightly off to the side. I had to just fiddle with them until I got a picture I liked. Because of the reflectiveness, the small sensor and the clear plastic around the lense base each one is gunna be different.

Btw, for posting photos I just use the Free Image Optimizer link right below the reply space for a message. I use the default settings. Because I use firefox it downloads it to my downloads folder so I can find it every time. Just gotta remember the name (It appends an opt to the file name you uploaded.)

I am satisfied with this and I now know I need to buy another pair of jansjo's lol plus the pair for my dad.

When I went to 500 and tried to post, it said my whatever was over 100KB I think is what it said. Anyhoo, I'm satisfied with the color and all that.

I used a trick posted on another thread and it worked great. I took Styrofoam cups and cut the bottom out except for a small rim, then cut the top off to get the desired height, turned it upside down and used it as a stand for the camera. The Carson zOrb is perfectly sized to the bottom of the cup, that it fits snug and won't move. It also doesn't let any outside light in to discolor the image. I did however cover the L.E.D.s with white candle wax to tone down the brightness. There is not a dimmer on the Carson, sorry to say. Anyone else have a Carson?

I had a birthday party to go this evening, so sorry for the late reply.

Ok, so I used the small styrofoam cups. The bottom of the zOrb fits perfectly into the bottom of the cup. Just cut to whatever height you want. The zOrb will only zoom out so far, so you'll have to play with that part for the further away sizes.

Just-Got-My-USB-Microscope-Camera-!

here's the Carson zOrb turned on and outside light turned down. It keeps out the outdside light.

Just-Got-My-USB-Microscope-Camera-!

Here's the cutout for the Carson zOrb to shoot through. You can see how I used white candle wax to tone down the L.E.D.s, and it worked great!

That's a cool idea I wanna try that with a regular scope and see if the pics are better cause the regular ones have that clear plastic extended off the front which lets in un wanted light

Well, just a reminder, it wasn't my idea. I got it from another CCF member a while back. It does seem to work really well. I hope it works for you too!

I agree it's a cool setup, simple yet effective. The beauty of using the scope is in its simplicity. I think I recall the post Jaymon74 refers to. Something about cutting openings into bottom of opaque white plastic tumblers, I think that would work well for the type of scope I have, both for diffusing and reflecting light. As well as keeping outside light out of the shot.

I have also been Googling "USB Microscope Stands".. Something that will allow me to adjust the distance from coins.. Right now I just prop the scope on top of the box it came in to get whole coin shots. Or I stack plastic CD cases to get the desired spacing from scope to coin.

Here's a photo of my setup.. The entire thing fits in a nook on my computer workstation. Gooseneck LED lamp $19 from Staples. Black table top works well as background, or I can just place a white background (paper) under the coin. Normally the scope is placed parallel over coin, and not at this angle.. I can pull out the entire setup and move/adjust the scope and light to get whatever position/angle I need.

Like I said, "the beauty is in its simplicity".

Very nice! Your scope is quite a bit different in shape and size than mine. Not sure if the cup thing will work the same. I originally came up with a homemade contraption that hooked to my small tri-pod that adjusted up and down and swiveled where I needed it. It was ok, just a tad on the bulky side. I like the cup idea much better. Who knows? You may come up with something that works better than anything you could buy.
Yeah, I'm not sure how to post links to another post or I'd do it for the one I'm referring to. It might be the same one you saw.

I bought the usb stand from Lighthouse, works great and you can tighten up the focus with it. Kinda spendy at 43 bucks but what ya gonna do everything is nowadays.

Hello, I just received my digital microscope that I ordered from newegg.com and the software disk only has a small .ini file on it and nothing else. It's the Digimicro iT7B digital USB microscope that others here have talked about. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can possibly download the software that was supposed to be on the disk ? I can't find anything about the manufacturer that would point me to a website for help. If anyone lives around the Roseville, Michigan area and has a disk I can borrow or if someone could possibly create a zip or rar file and upload it for me that would be awesome. I really want to try this thing out !!

Thanks,
Jon

Quite similar: http://www.kaiserbaas.com/cameras/d...OeaTjA4.dpbs

My enthusiasm for it has waned somewhat though. I got it in Dec 2011, and have 'worn out' 2 of them so far. I have to keep replacing them as the store I got the original one from, either replaces the item or gives store credit, and they don't really have anything else that I want.

It seems that for the amount of time I use them, their 'life' is about 5 months, so I'm less than impressed with them at this point in time.

At least by getting a new one each time they fail, I get another 12 month guarantee, so I guess if I keep replacing it every 5 months, I'm in front.

I also have a DIGITECH QC3247, which looks the same but the barrel is longer and is a little wider in circumference. It's quite difficult to focus though as it does up to 400x, and is a bit too much, but it was a 'fill' in until I got another KB.

I have a real cheapie on order from china, under $30, so time will tell what sort of quality it is.

If the KB's didn't keep breaking, I'd stick with them, but for 2 out of 3 to fail is pretty bad. I'm pleased with the ease of operation, quality of picture etc, but something just goes wrong inside.

Very nice, looks like mine is a chinese knock off version of yours. What is the black built in side knob for? the light? Mine has a low profile, slide on/off light switch. kind of annoying because the scope gets knocked around and thrown out of focus trying to turn the light on or off. The top cylinder shaped focusing knob doesn't have numbers like your does either. I suspect mine is definitely a cheap chinese knock off, but I love it :) And for $26 plus free shipping I don't mind. Lets see hope I can get 5 months out of mine too. :)
