I just picked up this clip-on goose neck LED light for use as an adjustable exterior light source with my USB Microscope. And I had to post my review here; I am delighted by how good it works for photographing coins. I'm surprised it works better than the LED table lamp I currently use. I am able to aim this and the light is directional, like a spot light, as opposed to my other LED table lamp that is designed more like a flood light. By the way this light is similar to the Jansjo lights, except I got this at Target for under $20. Whether its this one or the Jansjo's, IMHO, this is a MUST have if you want to start taking better photos with your USB scope.

Dude ya gotta go back and get it. It really lights up the coins nice. You won't have to use the built in scope light. You won't regret having it. The only draw back is finding a place to clip it to.

 Okay so I finally broke down and got a Lighthouse USB Microscope Stand. I just got tired of fiddling around with and rigging different ways to clamp and hold my USB scope. A big pain in the butt when shooting different size and type coins. Here it is in the box;  It comes disassembled but includes everything you need to put it together.  Only took about 5 minutes to put together, here it is;  Set up and ready to capture some coin images;  Here is the first unedited and unprocessed raw picture using the new stand;

Just received my Digimicro last night. The disk only contains XP drivers, so I had to digout my old XP machine. I can see that this is going to take a lot of work to get the light set up correctly. I'm assuming from reading this thread, that correctly lighting the coin will correct color issues and depth of field/focusing issues?
Last, what I REALLY need are Windows 8 drivers. Does anyone have them or any ideas on how/where to get them? Wen to Digimicro site and it's all in German, so no hope there.

Hi, I have mine running on my Windows 7 machine. Using the drivers included with my digimicro installation CD. Perhaps I can check if the drivers on my CD were different than the ones on yours, and I can email you the files you need if necessary.
As far as getting the right lighting setup, there is a bit of a learning curve, but experimenting using simple LED lights, placed at different angles, distances and in combination with or without the built in lights seem to do it. Just leave the scope set on default settings and make all the color adjustments through exterior lighting and then post processing the imasges to correct them further. Trust me if you start fiddling with the color settings it will drive you nuts, as you will need to constantly re-adjust for each type of coin. The only 2 settings I ever touch when I get frustrated are "auto white balance" and "low light level compensation".

Thanks Harry! If you find the drivers, let me know and I'll forward you my email. It might already be in my profile. What is messing me up is how light effects the depth of field. i.e. if I "scope" and Lincoln Cent...and the light is set up one way, his cheek and hair are in focus, but the date and the background are not. If I fiddle with the light, I can get it all in focus, but man does it take some fiddling. Color is another issue completely. Eveything I've photographs so far looks like a Steel cent. I was just wondering if I paid more for the scope (one of th $80.00+ Digimicro's), would I get less fussing around to get a good pic and might it also come with Windows 8?

Good question, I don't know if the other models would actually be a whole lot better. I beleive the difference would be mainly in power magnification, but other than that they probably will involve the same amount of tinkering to get them setup. As for what comes on the CD? what I found is that that is a complete gamble, I had to mail all the files to one member because his CD was completely BLANK...
Hey I have to step out for awhile, but I'll email you those setup files later tonight.

I am officially at this stage...buying this stand today after hours of fooling around this weekend with less than desirable results.
